Greig's honor
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 14, 2003 08:53 PM

Look who's talking about honor. Tony Greig did not walk on many an occasion when he got the benefit of the doubt(during the 70's as a member of the English team under Tony Lewis's captaincy) when he had the opportunity. But now he wants the present players to walk. It is always easy to give advice to others but difficult to practice. It is better to practice before one preaches ethics to others. This kind of advice coming from Greig is hypocrtical and absolute nonsense. Then what about all the dubious decisions the players get from the present bunch of jokers called umpires like Ashoka Desilva and co. Many of the Australian umpires are even openly dishonest. Tendulkar was given out dishonestly on several occasions last time he went to Australia. Even the umpires in West Indies are dishonest. Under the circumstances where dishonesty and sloppiness are the code among the umpires it is best for the players to stay put in the crease whenever they get the benefit of the doubt. One has to ask poor Shiv Sunder Das and many others how many times they have been given out under dubious circumstances. The players are getting the raw deal and not the umpires.
