Zaheer Kumble were superb

Kumble was surly the man of the match. Tendulkar only batted as usual for his record He has never been a match winner. Even Zaheer was at his best. Lets learn
to give credit to the person who deserves and not
get into the "HerdMentality"

Miracles happen, but dont depend on them.

there's nothing like a win over world champions, but lessons are to be taken in plenty from this match.

sachin should not slow down while reaching a milestone. he gets real slow even when a century is still 20-25 runs away. it directly affects the run rate.

laxman should concentrate on rotating the strike. he is brilliant batsman, but a poor runner between the wickets.

when australia is playing in the absence of Gillespie, mcgrath and lee, it makes more sense to add another bowler than to play 7 batsmen. australia bats deep till no.9. it was a stroke of luck that saved india from the savage Andrew symmonds, and from the might of Ponting. australians will not give their wickets away like this everytime.

my greatest concerns are about sachin, rest can be sorted out but sachin should really see victory first before his personal landmarks. his milestones may give a good name to him but they areof no use if a victory is not acheived.
thanks

I feel its okay for sachin to slow down because he was supposed to be out of form and he needed this 100 badly to come back ... that could be the reason ! Otherwise, he is not that bad to slowdown at 70 ... he reserves it for 90s ;-)

really kumble missed a well desreved man of the match

i truly agree with srinath's article that the man of the match should have been anil kumble.i feel this is avery wrong thing in the cricketing world that if a batsman scores 100 then he remains the only choice for the man of the match.i think one day cricket has already taken away so much from bowlers nad nothing is left for them there but if they bowl so well like kumble or zaheer bowled in ind-aus match then atleast the man of the match should have been them not the batsman who always get centuries!

Yes i agree to this opinion, Kumble rightly deserves the Man of the Match award.
This has happened many a times to the bowlers and here is one more incident where Batsman are given more preference than bowlers.
The efforts of bowlers have been ignored when a batsmen scores a century.

Well the person who is selecting the man of the match should be educated on how to select the M.O.M. Indeed batsmen are often favoured for M.O.M awards and in this case I do believe that Kumble deserved it more than Sachin. In fact even Adam Gilchrist deserved it more than Sachin coz Sachin scored only 17 more runs, but consumed 40 more balls than Adam. Is not a 83 in 79 balls (@ 105%) better than 100 in 119 balls (@ 84%) ? Pls note that even though overs were running out and 9 wickets in hand , Sachin did not accelerate coz he was nearing his 100. It was Yugraj & Agarkar who plundered nearly 90 runs in the last 10 overs that made Sachin's 100 look decent. Otherwise we were headed for a total of 250 or 260, while Sachin was at the crease.

I thought India should have scored 315 runs+ but in the end the excellent spin bowling of Kumble and Bhajji put an end to the Aussies batting lineup. There were several men of the match but for handling the situation both while batting and while bowling I feel Dravid should have been declared the man of the match.India need to improve their fielding and have atleast one more good spin bowler to maintain the standard of win they have shown.

Retired or not?
by Muralidhar Rao on Oct 27, 2003 09:07 PM

Has Srinath retired from playing cricket? Is this the reason he is giving his time to watching games and giving his expert opinions for rediff?

well said..

Well said srinath. The man of the match should have
been Kumble for his wonderful bowling performing
(though it has come after a very long time). It is
pity that such performances are neglected when
compared to our batsmen who were highly conscious on
their individual perfomances. But for Yuvraj and
Agarkar, who knows, India might have lost this
match.
