laxman is 2nd to none in Indian team. Infact he is a person who has proved his consistency better than Tendulkar , ganguly and other so called stars. It's better that we also appriciate people like Laxman in indian team, rather than keep sticking to Sachin and his elite team members. Sachin may be great considering his tons and half-centuries but has ofen failed to win mathces (forget about winning, not even saving) for India. Only other consistent player is THE WALL, Dravid is simply superb. LAXMAN and DRAVID in Indian middle -order will always save Indians from Disgrace if not win.
This is Really very Interesting to read Laxman's Comments regarding the Exclusion from the world Cup Squad. Laxman had never taken any pressure on him when it was given to him.As for as My Opinion he is a great Test Batsmen. But when he was given chance In Australia during India's Last visit with Tendulkar as captain He never did anything Interesting during ODI's and now he is claiming that it was a shock for him when he was exclude from the world Cup.Laxman cannot withstand Pressure. Just b'cos he has scored in Test that does not mena he will do it in ODI. He is a very slow runner in between the wickets. and we can't have people who are very slow in the wickets during ODI's . In ODI'S 1 run also matters a lot .
its better late than never we circket fans cant understand the logic for dropping laxman from previous matches, i remember one of our great player calling the selectors of his time a bunch of jokers.i think this is absolutely correct regarding vvs non selection.
For sheer consistency I wud prefer Rahul "The Wall" / "Jammy" Dravid or Tendlya.
However for experiencing the sheer pleasure of watching a stylish graceful batsman I wud prefer to watch the two classical Hyderabadis - Azhar and VVS.
I strongly belive and support that VVS Laxman a talented batsman in Tests But we can't depent up on him in One day matches, that proves his carrier records.
In this country, even when a peon makes a mistake, he is chargesheeted and action is taken against him. Many a governments have had to quit due to their mistakes. However, it is strange that Indian selection Board goes on making mistakes and there is no question of fixing accountability on them. VVS Laxman, who is one of the most stylish batsman in the contemporary world cricket, and whose name figures even in Wisden, was dropped from World Cup team without rhyme or reason. For some extranuous consideration, the Indian selectors acted in whimsical manner and dropped his name- maybe this made all the difference between winning and losing the World Cup. Laxman has proved beyond doubt how wrong the selectors were. Should we not fix accountability and take suitable action against the selectors- particularly when so much national prestige and money was involved?
There is no question regarding VVS's contribution in test matches but his inclusion for one day matches is a bad decision. Laxman is not the best of fielders. Laxman is a dangerous runner between wickets. There is always the risk Laxman could be responsible for running out players like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid, etc before Laxman run's himself out. This has happened before and it is a known fact that VVS is a poor runner between wickets. As for Laxman's batting in one days 9 out of 10 times Laxman gets out in his 20's or less. It is not right for selectors to reward Laxman a place for one day matches just because of his good performance in test matches. India should follow the Australian approach of having different teams for tests and one dayers taking into account the specific needs of one day matches and tests respectively.
VVS.Laxman does not need to prove to anybody. It is high time he gets is due in Indian Cricket. He has become a mainstay in the world of Cricket and we can not do away with him. He is Versatile V.I.P Stylish, that is Laxman for You.
There was no question about laxmans ability in test. He did well in westindies also. Except for couple of bad tests in NZ he has done well in the last 18 nmonths or so. But whether Laxman is a good one day player is to be seen. One has to wait and see whether he has improved on his fielding in one dayers. Though I wil wish him all the luck which eluded him in NZ.
