wicket keeping problem
by ravi joshi,bangalore on Oct 21, 2003 06:15 PM

Mr. Kirmani

Please dont' blame the young parthiv, since he is too young. I love your keeping. Till today I believe that you are the number 1 keeper India ever produced. But now your comment on current wicket keeping is too early. So give more exposure to the young kid.

Best of luck.

Ravi

we do have an out standing keeper
by vivek Raja on Oct 20, 2003 11:17 PM

i totally disagree with syed kirmani saying that we donot have a specialist keeper.you cannot just write of keeper by one mistakehe has done.parthiv has kept quite brillantly in during all tests leading upto to thwe mohali test.Even the best of the best make simplest of mistakes.I think selectors should just allow young men to continue in the team. rahaul can continue has the one day keeper what matters at the end of the day is ending up on the winning side. With rahul keeping we have just done that.I donot there should be any complain

Bowlers Wanted!
by Muralidhar Rao on Oct 17, 2003 01:29 PM

Parthiv is the best. So stop complaining and make use of him. He is still a boy. He will learn from experience. Kirmani has to be more worried about the lack of quality bowlers. Munaf Patel, Aviskar Salvi and Irfan Pathan seem to be the only bright spots amongst the bowlers. As for spinners there are none worth mentioning.

parthiv patel keeping.
by m khare on Oct 17, 2003 11:13 AM

Parthiv is young.he has proved himself in England.Instead of doubting his capabilities, selectors should talk something positive
at least till this Test is over.Selectors need a lesson on motivation and communication skills.every player would commit a mistake or two .But this is not the way a youngster should be groomed. why to forget the diving catch of Zaheer ,he took to dismiss the NZ opener in the 1st.Test at Ahemdabad? I dont know why selectors behave like dictators.

High time we have intelligent selectors !
by yohanan on Oct 17, 2003 10:48 AM

Going by Kirmani's assertions,it's not difficult to arrive at a conclusion we all knew;that Kirmani was a fine player but always lacked in intelligence. On one hand,he claims that we still do not have a quality keeper,on the other he is hellbent on destroying the equilibrium of the ODI squawad by insisting that Dravid be relieved of his dual responsibility. The truth is,except India every other international team had always gone for a Wicketkeeper Batsman for ODI's and even their test wicketkeepers were always more than a decent bat.The simple rule is : no player can fit into a quality international team nowdays without contributing towards the team's interest in more ways than one;exceptions to be allowed only when the player is an acknowledged & proven match winner like Glen McGraw,Shoaib Akhtar,Courtney Walsh,Brian Lara or Waqar Yunus. Most other players in the international sides are multi-skill players who contribute through atleast two of the three areas batting, bowling & fielding. Now analyse the indian scenario. How many match winning players we have in either version of the game?Perhaps we need to have another Dravid for test matches and get rid of mediocres like Patel.

Wicket Keeping
by anand on Oct 17, 2003 10:27 AM

Hi Every Body

We should give parthiv patel time to settle.Mr.Kirmani should not comment like this, since parthiv has missed a runout chance.Even Mr.Kirmani(No doubt, he was world class)has missed few stumpings and catches in his carrier.

Regards
Anand

Kirmani has a vested interest in Parthiv doing badly
by Happy on Oct 17, 2003 09:27 AM

Not sure if it is well known but Kirmani's teenage son is an aspiring wicket keeper himself - obviously if Parthiv settles down as India's long term keeper Kiri jr's chances are ruined!!! It is interesting and sad to see that Kirmani has consistently never said anything good about Parthiv --- instead of guiding and encouraging young Parthiv, Kirmani is slyly putting Parthiv under pressure -- Has Kirmani never had a bad day behind wickets? When everyone from Ian Smith to Farokh Engineer to Alec Stewart finds Parthive great - our chairman of selector thinks otherwise - any guesses why???? Plus, how good a batsman was Kirmani himself? its not as if he had an average equalling Gilchrist!!!

grand revival
by Dilip Mahanty on Oct 17, 2003 04:19 AM

I am confused. One writer, A Magotra, writes that the wicket in Mohali offered seam and bounce while Faisal Shariff termed it as flat equating it with Motera!
What's the truth?

Kirmani is Right!
by P V rao on Oct 17, 2003 04:10 AM

Its true. We have not stressed on a good wicket keeper for a while now and are paying for it. Dravid must not and should not keep for INDIA. This is a dangerous position and you need specialist like Kiri to do the job. Hope Kirmani will convinve the BCCI and others to get the team in the right direction! Good luck SMH Kirmani, we always loved the way he collected on the leg side :)
