Team selection lacks insight and foresight
by Ananthan on Oct 06, 2003 11:37 AM

The selection of Bahutule and the omission of Ramesh and Badani shows that the recent selection made lacks insight and foresight..Ramesh was selected for the 3 day match at Rajkot to show what he has got..and he more than Akash Chopra was more comfortable against the bounce(Whatever it was) extracted by Tuffy and Oram. Also the selectors failed to notice that in the earlier match when Akash chopra scored a century there was nothing left in the game for the Kiwis...and in this innings also he was given benefit of doubt (where nothing existed)..

If the selectors contention is that they were looking for the future..what is a 26 yr old doing at the openers slot for future !!!

But the slectors need to be given a Pat on back fopr backing Yuvraj singh..he has done the hardwork and needed the reward.Munaf could have been given a try..also amit Mishra could have been given a chance or Murli Karthik tried for once..

Regards

Ananth

Indian team selection
by Dhaval on Oct 06, 2003 12:14 AM

Honestly, I am not quite sure what the selectors wanted to achieve with the selected team. With just one regular opener, a captain who rarely scores and a spinner who rarely spins the ball, I am not sure if this is the right team. Even with Yuvraj, he had a miserable summer for Yorkshire, so wonder if he will actually go to Australia or even play against NZ. It would have been better to retain SS Das instead of Yuvraj, so that if Sehwag fails, we could have tried Das at Mohali. And Sehwag is bound to fail, if not against NZ then in Australia. Barring Dravid, Sachin and Harbhajan, I don't see anyone doing well against NZ, which can only mean a couple of things either India draws the series or losses it. If I were a punter, I would go for India lossing it.

Yuvraj rewarded for hard work

What a contradicting article. At one point it talks about Badani fighting against the likes of Laxman and Ganguly and then praises Yuvraj. Comparing the two, Yuvraj wasnt even deemed good enough to play for Yorkshire when the county team dropped him in not so recent past. While Badani scores a century. Unless Badani was dropped for injury its insane

omission of ramesh
by madhan on Oct 05, 2003 09:45 PM

it was disheartening to see ramesh being left out for the first test match i want to know on what grounds akash chopra was better than ramesh yes akash scored a centtury at vizag but the match was decided by the time he went in to bat and it was against the kiwis second string of bowlers excluding vettori .but in the rajkot match as u all know ramesh and chopra were put in front of the kiwi bowling line up which is most likely to play the first test in that ramesh faired well but chopra was struggling to find his touch he was struggling against tuffey and co moreover ramesh should have been preffered to open with shewag coz chopra has the same style like shewag and kiwis wont find it tough to get the better of him poor these guys from tamilnadu keep performing for years but never get the chance they deserve.

Yuvraj is lucky
by sun on Oct 05, 2003 09:22 PM

I am surprised at Yuvraj's inclusion. I would say he got selected bcos of backing and not bcos of his hard work. He just failed miserably in England.

Yuvraj Singh good for Test?
by Opener on Oct 05, 2003 08:57 PM

Opening for punjab and India is the same?
What you guys are thinking about? They would ruin his ODI career as well, if he plays for the series at all (test opener).
Get specialists S Ramesh ( he is very comfortable against pace) , SS DAS (what wrong he did?)
Its no good for Yuvraj.

Difference of opinion
by Ramesh on Oct 05, 2003 07:56 PM

The statement that Hemang Badani is competing with teh likes of VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly(???) for a middle order slot in test matches. I find it very hard to accept this statement. Can there be any competition between a performer and a non performer? Ganguly has never been a performer in the tests especially against pacemen. A couple of innnings here and there does not qualify anybody for a performer. Ganguly is a class player but I would like to restrict this comment to the one dayers alone. He doesn't seem to be staying long enough to get some big scores under his belt and especially abroad, he is a suspect against some genuine fast bowling.

about ajit agarkar
by gaurav on Oct 05, 2003 03:09 PM

i want to say in the test squad why dont u ask dravid to keep u get an extra batsmam or bowler if he keeps that will help in future
and i dont understand onething of indian selection committee , that u keep saying we need an allrounder than why not try ajit agarkar instead of dinesh mongia, because he can bat well above on 2nd down and than he can share the ball with quickies. No probs at all, havent south africa struggled with Jacques kallis or lance klusner butnow the are world class allrounder or the latest example of andrew flintoff has made u understand anything. Give him chances as they have got he will be a better player in future
