Give everyone his due!

Friends, Cricket is, was and will always be a TEAM sport.......the entire bunch of armchair "experts" who keep singling out and praising Tendulkar and completely ignoring the others needs to be avoided. Look at our ads......each time a celebrity swears allegiance to cricket (in the paper or on screen) he/she is 100% likely to mention Tendulkar and no one else..why this mindset? Srinath has won matches almost single-handedly at times..Sehwag/Ganguly/Dravid have done a LOT for the team...Harbhajan is an excellent spinner, Agarkar has the spirit of a champion (something only Waugh and Tendulkar could have laid claim to), Kaif has shown his ability quite a few times and so on and so forth. We have a good team overall...and when the TEAM performs..we WIN. We should stop this insane adulation of a SINGLE entity in what is clearly a TEAM SPORT. Windies don't keep hyping just Lara.....there;s always talk of their specialist bowlers, keeper jacobs along with their specialist batsmen, newcomers, etc...ditto for the Aussies, and the South Africans have completely relinquished individual glory-hogging...why do we persist with this tradition of singling out ONE man and ignoring the rest?

Not to be taken seriously
by yohanan on Oct 11, 2003 07:50 PM

The views of Philpott need not be taken seriously, atleast not in totality.Tendulkar has never done anything worth mentioning against australia, except his first tour down-under.He is,more than likely,to give an average performance.Dravid can possibly do a bit better, though last time around he was a great disappointment.Ganguly is sure to flop and nothing much should be expected from others.Yes,kumble should no longer play, not only against australia but against any other country as well because he has outlived his utility. The likely result of the series in australia is 3-0 or at best 3-1.

We need some more like him!
by Ujjal on Oct 06, 2003 09:46 PM

Yeah, I bet if we can grasp some more experienced coaches like him, then we will certainly be unbeatable. I'm not directing against Indian coaches, but we need outsiders also so that they can give new inputs to young talents. Overall, we need some professionalism in team management : somewhat we are lacking in!

Cheers!

Unrealistic assumptions
by Pankaj on Oct 02, 2003 01:10 PM

The heading was misleading.. it is not matching with the interview..
What he says that if any thing is best equipped then it is India... A right analogy we can have for australia and other teams is Amitabh and other actors of bollywood. The number 1 is very high and the difference between 1 and 2 to im-measurable while all the teams 2-8(barring Zim and Bangladesh) are same.

Its ridiculous

I think this man is ridiculous. What does he mean by saying he would put his money on India.... One tendulkar can never do it..... If one Brian Lara could not the last time.. One tendulkar can never ever do it...
