Srinath's columns
by Apparao Kodavanti on Nov 25, 2003 02:48 AM

How can we not criticize the indian team. I do not know how he can only have good words for the Indian bowlers. I find our bowling performance apalling especially Zaheer Khan.

Nothing to loose???
by ranjan on Nov 22, 2003 11:35 AM

I respeect srinath as a good player but i cant buy this.We have everything to loose , why to loose a game against aust? So what if they r world champions, we are also runners up ! Onething india team lacks is killer instinct , and it cant be developed by a coach, we are alwz satisfied with less when we are on a tour. why?? are we not paid enough? are we technically unfit? is our coach is not good enough??? whats the reason??. I think its high to consider a permamnent Phychologist with every tour so that we will not see this kind of column from a former player to encourage team mates.

Australia's victory on India
by yogesh kumar on Nov 22, 2003 08:56 AM

Austrlians are really world winner. The team which can beat a country in its own country in every sector
like fielding, batting, bowling,Keeping, opening batting, captain's decision making, strategy before game.In every sector Australia beat India.India should really learn from India specially in sector of Fielding and Middle order batting. In World cup India reach to final only due to these two sector. Yuvraj and Kaif supported India to these sector. but in this series Indian performance was realy very poor. I think next coming series at Australia they will improve their middle order batting,Fieldinga & strategy of game.

Nothing to lose?
by Anant Katdare on Nov 21, 2003 04:50 PM

I am surprised to hear from Srinath that our team has nothing to lose on the tour. Last time we were spanked 3- 0 in test & lost 7 out of the total 8 matches in triangular oneday series. Surely our much hyped great batting side has to prove its class & credibility on bouncy pitches down under. Last time these very same batsmen failled miserably. Dravid could not even aggregate 100 runs in six innings. Surely Srinath is painting a rosy picture. Why Dravid should open the innings? Just to accomodate Sehwag in the middle order? If Sehwag doesnt have the guts to open in Australia he should sit out & wait for his turn to earn a middle order slot. Firstly he was never a test opener. Secondly he cannot pick & choose the tour's where he will open. He did the same in NewZealand & our great captain send poor little Parthiv Patel to open. It was one of the most shameful acts in the history of indian cricket. On our last tour to Australia Samir Dighe was send to open. This is ridiculous. Its high time some sanity is maintained in the batting order. We require specialist openers with guts not scapegoats. We always choose the team first & then decide who should bat where. That should stop.

nothing to loose means?
by satya on Nov 21, 2003 04:32 PM

"Indians have nothing to lose", i dont understand the meaning of such statement, does that mean that India is not at all thinking that they can beat Australia in Australia. With such a mindset I dont know where Indian cricket is heading for. Few days Tendulkar was making a a statement that Aus tour will be great learning experience. Dont you think Mr. Tendulkar that life is not that long to keep learning always and never thinking to act and perform.

We need to encourage but accept the fact.
by Anand iyer on Nov 21, 2003 03:54 PM

Yes, We have to encourage the squad at every stage since they will be put to test time and again by Aus.
However, the selectors should not be pardoned and we should not be covering them. The players should not be blamed for a negative result, should we have at the end of the tour. The selectors should take the responsibility for their mistakes.Should the team come out in flying colours, then the selectors also enjoy the party,so the selectors should also face the brunt when the team is unable to perform. I'm glad that Srinath and our legend Gavaskar share the same view that I had presented in my earlier comments. FYI "If they can't get 236 against a second string bowling attack what will they do against the fully fledged attack?" Gavaskar, who has scored a world record 34 Test centuries, wrote in his Hindustan Times newspaper column and Srinath has his view "It has been a normal practice for years to go into a Test match with four regular bowlers. A change in strategy to add extra fifth bowler to go with one less batsman is not a bad idea either". Its a pity that these statements just attract news, how much they are followed is an unanswerable question.

Indians have nothing to lose
by Chintamani Kathavate on Nov 21, 2003 03:21 PM

Yes I strongly agree with Srinath and just to add a few things to what the expert has not covered is we need to be real Professionals in the game what I mean to say by this is that stop shoping and doing ads for some time and concentrat hard and practice hard till u are ready to bowl/face the first ball of the match.

They also should concentrate on the fielding aspect and converting the 1/2 chance to their advantage

The opening slaught would have looked good if SS Das woulc have been picked instead of Ramesh who by now must have really lost touch or Deepdas who I think is the choice of the CAP and has not made it on merrits.
Parthiv even if he has missed / not kept well at times to me is to be given some time so that it will do a lot of good to his confidence and also should be tried as a opener in the 4 day games So that he can be groomed fm now to be the weecket keeper come opener that India is looking for. At thi young age if he has the temperment to play and hang on he surely is to be tried / converted to a opener keeping the long term planning

Bowling is not a problem only the bowlers should learn that they have to pitch the ball up and not give room

thnx

Thanks , we are in Chennai
by B Raju on Nov 21, 2003 03:11 PM

With the CAS being thrust upon the residents of Chennai alone , we are probably lucky not to see our side being thrashed by the professionnal Aussies. As a fan of cricket , I can only hope that at least when we are not able to see them in action , they spring a surprise by turning the tables on the Aussies.

So Srinath's feedback to selectors is...
by Makarand on Nov 21, 2003 02:59 PM

The openers are good for nothing and hence Dravid will have take on added responsibility.

The spinners are a tough choice because none of them inspire confidence for automatic selection .

So barring Tendulkar and Dravid everyone else seems to be having a ball at the expense of the cricket loving public.
