Oh!!! Really...?

I dont know why they wanted to select Salvi in the First place. Bowling long hops at Venkatesh Prasad's pace. An easy guess of the result would be "slaughter". They would have done this switch after the first test match anyway, so let us give credit to the selectors for being late. Is Karthik's non selection still because of Saurav Ganguly not favoring him? I cant believe this. Accepted he was not too good in the test matches he bowled, but he was being forced to bowl a containg line and manner, but another test or two isn't asking for much, is it?

Is there any more vacancy in the India squad fo Aus? I would like to join
by Anand Iyer on Nov 19, 2003 06:03 PM

I think the selectors want to prove a point that they were all in their senses by not including Kartik the first time and hence would prefer Balaji even when an oppurtunity comes their way to what we all consider as the golden oppurtunity to rectify your error.I dont see any point including a player who is just going to warm the cold chairs in Aus dressing room. Forget the eleven I doubt if he would be the twelfth man, so why not the selectors spend some money in sponsoring trips not only to cricketers but also cricket fans like me if they have the liberty to fill in 4 vacant spots viz thirteen, fourteen to sixteen. It will be still worse should a combination of just 4 bowlers and 6 batsman be used as mentioned in one of my comment that 4 bowlers would not win you a test. Our batsmanship was evident from the last final at the Eden park when we could not achieve it with 6 batsman playing for a target of 235 facing a second string Aus bowling attack. If the selectors are ready to surrender much before the contest then I guess we should but not lose by a huge margin and instead consider a 5th bowler to reduce the margin of defeat.
After all we just work towards salvaging pride.

Laxman??
by Madhusudhan on Nov 19, 2003 10:26 AM

Why are Karthik and Badani not in the team to Australia? In Karthik's case it is sheer injustice and a crime to leave him out, as he was the stand-out bowler in this series, as well as the earlier one...

Does performance not count?? Or is it that Karthik does not have any god-fathers??

Whatever Laxman achieves with the bat (lets keep aside that 281 for a while, which seems to be clouding everyone's judgement), the guy is a major liability in the field.. Yesterday was enough evidence of that. It definitely cost us the match. He should definitely be dropped for the one-dayers.
Badani would definitely score over him on grounds of current form, fitness and fielding.

Looks like we are back to the good old days of biased and cock-eyed selections...

Wake up, jokers.

Since Salvi bowled badly and Balaji excelled in the Ranji trophy game, the selectors wanted to give Balaji a chance. However they needed a valid reason and hence the 'injury drama'.I am sure this is a drama and nothing else.

Balaji replaced Salvi

Hardly a surprise. Wonder how he injured himself within the 3 overs he bowled. Does the selection committe expect us to believe that. Why not just say that his performance was not up to the mark and that he got thrashed.

Indias loss to Australia in TVS cup final at Kolkata
by Rutuparna .N. Pantsachiv on Nov 19, 2003 12:09 AM

I am sure you all must be equally dissapointed with Indias loss in the finals of the the TVS Cup. We would not have got a better chance to win than the one we had in Kolkata. It was just due to some senseless batting by our tailender batsman ( should i call them batsman, well cant help it as they had the bat in their hand ) and some very very poor quality feilding ( as against the world class feilding of Australians ) that let us down. I dont have words to express the dissapointment. I was not so dissapointed even with the world cup final loss.
I dont say we have a poor team. Its just lack of proper application of your real talent. Badani's wicket to a poor stroke at a vital time, Yuvraj singh's wicket to a preety ordinary stroke and the poor batting display by number 8,9, 10 and 11 batsman was really dissapointing. Dont tell me our bowlers cant even face the bowling of Ian Harvey. 4 wickets
in 8 balls without conceiding a run. aaaaaaah. Ajit Agarkar was playing strokes on the other side and thir work was just to stay there and support him.
The controvertial decission of playing 7 batsman in the WC 2003 seemed to be the right one on seeing the poor batting performance.
