Playing for winning

Unlike Indian team at Wankhede, New Zealand team looked like they were playing to win the match. Especially their tail-ender batsmen, taking the score to 250+ inspite of having three ducks on score board. Indian tail-enders looked as if they were batting just because they had to bat.
Hats off to New Zealand team's spirit.

Fixed match!
by Muralidhar Rao on Nov 04, 2003 03:31 AM

I am not sure. If you had watched closely in the end it looked very obvious NZ wanted to lose. So many dolly dropped catches by the WK and close fieders. Stephen's captaincy was not great but devious, bringing in a spinner and expensive Oram toward the death overs instead of the very economical Harris and Styris. In the end NZ made sure they would lose. Everything in the end and also the begininig after NZ were down 21 for 4 suggests the match could have been fixed.

Kiwis Loose a Thriller courtsey Match Referry

It was good to see the Aussies batting in deep to ensure that they win this game. But it also must be noted they bowled 30+ wide deliveris for which not only the bowled the extra overs but also were well into over time for bowling the overs. At the start of the 46th over it was supposed to be the scheduled close of 1st innings which was atleast extended by 30 mins so as to enable the assusies to bowl those overs. It also should have resulted in deduced of atleast 4 overs (considering the wides they bowled) from their quota of overs when they batted. But they werent fined even for 1 over.. it was decisive in the end.

this is unfair though they are chapms they shud be treated equally as other teams.
