the way we lost.....
by vivek on Nov 03, 2003 06:42 PM

dear whoever

i guess all indians are big fans of cricket. its like a religion. well i am an enthusiastic fan of the indian cricket team. well losing and winning are part of life i know that so does everybody. what hurts me everytime india loses is the way we lose. pathetic horrible sometimes i feel like breaking the tv. lets lose with pride lets lose with a fight. the dum or josh is lacking terribly in the indian team. say for this match we had to hit 289 or so to win. there came a situation where we could not make it. well atleat we could have hit the 228 to avoid giving the bonus point to the aussies. also the batsmen should be able to judge the pitch with their experience. and play well. each one should think about the game not hte pay packet they get after. as their performance goes so does the reward. it happens everywhere in all business. well i think the team needs to do a lot of thinking, meditating and being alone with themsleves before every match. it helps to be quiet and think. well hope the best ofr the team and continue to support. but i think its time they seriuosly change their attitude. high when high and high when low. ithink this is what it should be. bol

Rahul Dravid

Does Rahul Dravid want to maintain a popular image with his team mates,so that he can earn their loyalty, shoul he become the permanent captain? Why can't he call a spade a spade? Was it a bowling feat from the great spin twins of India?Kumble and Harbhajan should themselves take a respite from the game and try later.

ODI Performance of Indian Team
by Harish Suchev on Nov 03, 2003 04:51 AM

India cricket side have more liability then assessts. We have to have all rounders in team up to 9 wickets, Wicketkeepers fast bowlers, seamersa and spinners have to bat well. SS DAs, Ajay Ratra or Sameer Dighe need to be tried. Agarkar and Zaheer are well team to opening bowling. Agarkar is far better choice place of Nehra.

Need to learn..
by venky on Nov 03, 2003 01:19 AM

This is not a message posted just because we lost to Australia. Winning and Losing are part of the game. Agreed we cannot win all the time. But what can be done all the time is playing it hard with aggression and high intensity. It was sad that nothing of those happened at the Wankhade Stadium. Right from the first over (barring one ball that dismissed Hayden), India did not show any intensity.
1) Zaheer needs to know that he has to bowl like a spear head to be called one.
2) The Captain needs to be in-charge. Like when Harbajan was rushing his deliveries, he should have asked Harbhajan to toss the ball up as the wicket was bouncing and turning, should have used Agarkar's full quota of 10 overs. (Missing Saurav here). Look at it this way, after 5 overs the scoreboard reads 54 for 1. This is exactly what Aus wanted - a flying start.
3) What was our plan in batting? Ideally we should have targetted about 215 - 220 in 40 overs, losing minimum wickets and what did we do? We were cruising at 130 for 2 and suddenly dug a hole around ourselves.
4) Finally, did we have an alternate plan for not giving up the bonus point? We handed it in a golden platter.
When will we learn!

Defending the Bowlers
by subbaraman on Nov 02, 2003 09:44 PM

I think that Dravid's defence of his bowlers is not to displease them. Our bowlers bowled very badly, reminiscent of the World Cup final. In all these matches, Zaheer Khan, who is otherwise a good strike bowler, bowled very badly, conceding a lot of wides and runs. Kumble and Harbhajan were clueless as to how attack the batsmen. The body language of all members of the team was poor. The less said about the batting performance, sans Sachin and Dravid, the better. One cannot expect to win a cup with such dismal performance. Let us hope that the team recoups and comes back.

Hi Dravid,
I appreciate your courage to defend your bowlers. You are the right captain. Taking the responsibility of the loss(not passing the blame - even though pitch was bad). I definitely appreciate your bold approach.

Every match is different, especially one learns from the failures. You said it right. But we have to take care of this for the next match.

Wish you all the best.
A well wisher from USA,
Anil Menon
