Nice article Daniel Laidlaw, you have covered all the angles. Yep, the Umpires have a share of the blame, but ICC cannot be entirely let off the hook. There are obvious problems in the setup, but some of the umpires have misued the power which has forced some of the teams to ask for them not to be umpiring in their games. I feel we need the following things 1)Umpires are like bringing up Judges but the problem is the Judges have to be the same kind of breed, applying Law same for everyone. 2)There should not be any ambiguity in the definition of the law. 3)But just because the umpires failed to implement the code, the actions of the players should not be left unpunished. There should be a panel of Jury who will overlook the actions on the ground for all matches and anything that asks for notice should be dealt with the same yardstick. 4)The Other Cricket playing nations should pull up their socks and put a brave fight to these Aussies, they have no opposition now. Save your respect. 5)The Cricketing bodies around the world should lodge a complaint with the Aussies formally if it calls for.
It begs a question who Sarwan did not complaint himself
lets just compare two instances, ganguly's over appealing and Darren lehmann's bause against srilanka(black bast...). ganguly is suspended for 2 games, so how many games do u think is correct for darren..3?? i suggest 30 or even life time he shoulnt be allowed to play criket. whatever the subject is we have heard it from all, even sunil gavaskar and ravi shstri have said that players from sub continent get punished more than white players.. do u think we all know more than what they do??
Read cricket write cricket. Number of comments says rediff should provide 2-3 articles daily on cricket to increase number of readers. A Good pass time for all indian cricket lovers ( I m no exception )
But do read other articles, and make comments if deem fit.
Sledging has become part and parcel of every sport. Take football for example, we see heated arguments and chest shoving in every league game. We see the Pakistanis resort to sledging often, especially when they play India. I haven't heard much said about them, so I doubt this is a question of racism on ICC's part. Despite that unsavoury incident between McGRath and Sarwan, the relationship btwn the 2 sides was excellent. Everyone who followed the series would agree. The Indian team just has to learn to toughen up on the field.
Dear Mr. Laidlow, It appears that you have presented a more realistic view in this article than the previous one. Yes,we understand that you are not condoning the sledging when you try to explain their behaviour but it was the tone of the entire article which made it sound like you were reprimanding a very gifted and lovable child who had not erred earlier at all which made it so frustrating to read. You had defended their behaviour by talking of the bodyline used by Douglas Jardine in "1930's" and since then the law has changed and so has cricket. I was wondering if you would be able to explain the way the English cricketers and cricketing fans behave based on the behaviour of the English football fans specially considering that football is also considered as part of the English culture nowadays. I agree the Australians talk about mental disintegration but my guess is that they are talking about disintegration of the entire spirit of the game and sportsmanship in the same tone privately. A number of Australians have been fined but wouldn't it have been ateast twice the number if the umpires and the refrees had been consistent. Navin
I agree that the sledging that goes on should be stopped. But this is old news now. Even the players involved have moved on and have forgotten what happened. Isn't there anything else to write about. I am sick of reading about this topic over and over again.
