Selection of India A team
by Pramod on Jul 26, 2003 03:19 AM

By seeing the comments from all the folks over the India A team selection, it looks like all the guys are supporting the one or the other players. If you cumulate all the choices it would give your around 25 players and we need only 11 players in the team so anyway there is going to be a discussion again. I think we really need very strong opener like vaughan & gibbs, an alrounder like Kallis/Flintop/Bichel/Symonds and killing fast bowler. It means we are in sear for talent in every department. We should be making India A, India B and India C team for all the talented players and should send them to play with Kenya, B'des and A teams from Aus, Eng, NZ, West Indies etc. Based on their performance, players should be moved from India C to India B or India A and to the senier team. I hope it would help in hunting the talent.

I don't agree at all
by Dayanand on Jul 22, 2003 09:43 AM

Supporting a player like Ramesh who is both technically and temperamentally worst player to get selected for India and understating the abilities of solid players like Das and Badani isn't worth discussing at all.
Please don't publish such biased article which nobody agrees to.

feeling sorry to reetindersingh sodhi
by himath thapa on Jul 15, 2003 11:26 AM

i would like to say the selection committee tht many talented youngster who are in their best form are not considered in the selection list. take as when vijay bharadwaj was in his explosive form on the kenya tour after tht he was not even considered in the team inspite of getting the man of the series.and my other player is genuine all rounder reetinder singh sodhi who has good performance in one day international.why is he not getting a national call,he has to get the fair chance like other who has good influense thn the performance.i wish him good luck fr his future.

VAGARIES OF SELECTION
by A Raghunandan Varma on Jul 11, 2003 11:07 AM

Das has had his days and his choice as caption was itself surprising. As opener Tamilnadu S Ramesh is far superior. Wasim Jaffer and S Ramesh would make a good opening pair and Sehwag could go down the order. In Australia, it would be a great risk sending Sehwag to open the innings. Faisal Sheriff has said the right things. Why Parab? Is he going to make it to the grade? Or is it Kiran More's lad? Gambhir is okay and needs to be exposed. But Tests are a different game. Isn't it?

India A selections
by SR on Jun 20, 2003 07:50 PM

The selection for India A has many errors - but I do not agree that the omission of SRamesh is one of them. He has shwon in his brief international career that he does not have any sort of techinque - especially that needed to counter good seam bowling at the top of the order . the only thing that he does have as an opening batsman is the ability to (defensively) handle short pitched bowling. Yes, Rohan gavaskar & Bharadwaj should not have been selected but Bahutule should have been. But dont forget that Bahutule has been given many chances and has not capitalized - also , with Amit Mishra now in the selectors gaze , they are probably looking to induct fresh blood who will play for many more years.

I would like to make a few things clear... i get a feeling the writer is kinda biased against a few players.. take for instance sriram... hes been a great performer over the years in the ranji... the performances mentioned at the international level are all in ODIs... his style as is evident is not suited to ODIs... so he of course deserves a chance at the test level ... where there is a chance that he might be a better opener than ss das who sucks big time.. one must also realize that rahul dravid also dint perform well in his initial say 10-15 ODIs... so selection at the test level is an ideal platform to prove... sames the case with badani... i personally cant think of a reason why he was dropped... he wud have done a kaif/yuvraj in the WC-03 if he was there in the time... everyone knows that he performed really well at the international level...

take the bowler avishkar salvi... if anyone had seen the ranji finals u wud have come to know that he was a pathetic bowler...

ne ways one cannot say the selection is too good... neither it can be said it pathetic ... rohan gavaskar where did he come from... rohan gavaskar cudnt find a place in the mumbai team and ....

Hi Faisal:

Badani has played four tests (1 vs Zim and 3 vs SL) and why can't he make a test comeback?

Brutal Ommission.
by Ranjit on May 30, 2003 12:32 PM

Dear Faisal,
If the A team is supposed to give an opportunity to Youngsters and an Opportunity to "come back" there should have been atleast 4 players in the team instead of people like Rohan, Bharadwaj, Bhandari, Sriram. Laxman should have been there becasue he has class and just cannot be ignored.Mohanty should have been there because he is possibly the best Indian bowler in English conditions and needs this opportunity to come back. Sodhi should have been there becasue we badly need a allrounder and finally it is high time we gave a chance to Kulamani Parida.

Poppycock

Faisal Sharif seems to have the inside track on who are perceived as the good players inthe domestic scene by the head honchos in the Indian cricket team. We have already seen a nice old boys network developing in the Indian team what with the likes of Mongia, Kaif getting umpteen chances and the Yohanans, Kales and Sharandeeps of the world getting the odd game or two and then being dumped. Even assuming that Rohan Gavaskar and Parab did not have a great domestic season, is it reason enough to say that they are not good enough to play for India, after all they haven't been tested at the international level unlike a Bahutule who has got his chances and failed miserably. As for Srirams initial failures at the international level and hence not being good enough as perceived by some Indian players, even Ganguly, Dravid and Kaif did not exactly set the Ganges on fire when they started off their careers. It would help if Sharif stopped being the official spokesperson for the Indian team management and started being a more balanced and pragmatic journalist
