Some surprise selections!!
by timshel on May 25, 2003 12:07 AM

Surprised to see Rohan Gavaskar's name in the list. At 27 yrs he's not exactly one for the future...
Equally surprised to see Akash Chopra being left out. He was the 2nd highest scorer in the last India A's tour to the W. Indies(after Gambhir). And as far as performance in the Ranji last stages goes both he & Gambhir were failures(in the semis).
And I don't see why Ajay Ratra was dropped after performing quite well in the last tour both with the bat & behind the stumps. Surely he's our standby keeper & needs the tour more than Parthiv who has established himself in the test side now.
And maybe it would have been wise to send Agarkar along.. He was bowling well in the Ranji matches & needs to get his confidence back as far as bowling in the longer version of the game goes. Unless of course this is sending the signal that enough is enough & it is curtains as far as test go ....

A'team selection
by abi on May 24, 2003 10:28 PM

The selection of Indian A team for England seems to be fair, except for one decsion. Tinu Youhannan should have been in the place of Amit Bhandari.Tinu, even though accompanied the national team for the West Indain and England tours, wasn't been selected for the test teams. When he was given chance for the second test at NewZeland he did pretty well.
The practise of juggling with coachs for A' teams is not an appreciable trent. The Board should desist from distributing the honours democratically and should stick on with one preson purely on merit.
