Why complain?
by Pushpak Sarkar on May 23, 2003 08:53 AM

I dont agree with the anti-BCCI views expressed in this article. They seem to be blamed by everybody, inspite of the great performance by India in the last year.

If the BCCI can pay hefty salaries to current Indian players, then it is unfair to ask the Board to schedule less games.

To quote Faisal's stats, if Australia has played 16 tests and 50 odd ODI, Indian should also be prepared for similar workload(16 test and 55ODIs). In fact almost half the Indian squad is playing county cricket in England, instead of resting their tired limbs!

We should not forget that current Indian players get paid a huge amount in comparison to the national per capita income( in comparison to Australia) .

To get paid so highly, players need to remain in peak fitness. That is what professional sport is unfortunately all about.

Pace academy????
by kappax on May 21, 2003 08:54 AM

Off late the media reports seems to suggest on the sly that the BCCI took the initiative & aided in setting up the pace academy alongwith MRF... & is now doing the same with Spin...

that is crap... MRF chief appaled at the quality of our pace bowlers & the general lack of enthusiasm & knowledge of the craft of his own initiative created the academy..

BCCI untill this day, don't recognise MRF pace academy officially & so u see the boards of other countries sending in promising wards but none from BCCI... The Indian bowlers who train there are taken from the talent scouting done by TA Shekar & his team.. not by BCCI...

but currently there seems to be a small tie-up between MRF & NCA blooming...

BCCI is nowhere in the picture but are happy to reap the rewards..

BCCI needs to officially recognise MRF Pace Foundation & ensure that promising pace bowlers in Ranji trophy are sent here... I had heard about one Mark xxxx xxxx from assam who was supposed to have lots of pace sometime back... but haven't heard about him since... maybe cause he plays for assam...
May be Spin academy is to chiefly ensure that old spin kings get a bite of the pie & so will not raise their voice
