Loss for CRICKET
by Andy on May 24, 2003 03:09 PM

Its indeed a disappoinment tat the Sultan Of Swing has called it a day. But, i guess it was time for the world's greatest left armer to call it at this time when he's reached the acme of his carrier having acheived something in life which others can only dream off. Its not just his bowling skills(6 different deliveries in a over, truly a batsman's nightmare) tat make him gr8, but his attitude towards the game, the spirit in which he played it, made him command respect amongst his team mates and his opposition. A true gentleman tat this game rarely sees. He'd banter the batsman but wud also applaude everytime a batsman reached a landmark figure.he was the sweetest guy off the field and firce competer on the field, unrattled by big names or the opposition or the occasion.

I just hope he continues his association with cricket and teaches his craftsmanship to those aspiring few.

All the best Mr. Akram in all your endevours.

gr8 things can not last forever
by Ganesh on May 24, 2003 02:31 PM

In my opinion Wasim Akram is the best fast bowler ever. Many will argue with me on this.
There are many contenders for this honour like Fred Truman, Dennis Lilly, Andy Roberts, Richard Hadley, Michael Holding. But nobody ever had the variations like Akram.
And all these guys were reluctant to play in subcontinent. All of there "achievements" are on helpful and bouncy pitches.
I will miss the sight of Akram starting from anywhere and bowling shoe crushing yorkers, reverse swings and deadly slowers ones. And above all his smiling face.

Wasim , The irrestible harmony
by sriram on May 24, 2003 07:46 AM

Wasim Akram, no longer in the Pakistan line up, is very hard to take....it was a dream to watch him perform and evry achievement of his is richly deserved. He was one of the all time greats to have evr played and cricket will not be the same, without him...

it was a pleasure in this birth and as a true cricket player and lover, to watch all time greats like Wasim and Imran play as like the west Indies team of the 80's..sheer class.....

here's wishing him the very best in his future plans.

Greatest that ever was
by Farrukh Khan on May 21, 2003 04:06 AM

Some say that he was the greatest left hand bowler of all time, some say that he was the greatest swing bowler; the question remains have you ever seen as threatening a bowler as Akram? Short run up, quick side on arm action action, over or around the wicket and the bowl could go to any direction in towards middle and out towards first slip to the right hander, all at a good pace and good height. Most bowlers focus on their run up, the delivery is one part of their action, with Wasim he wanted to deliver the ball as quickly possible, runup or no runup.

What will be missed is that elegant ease that he displayed in bowling the perfect ball when it counted the most. Does McGrath comes even close? And the fact remains that if he wanted to he could do it even now. No one else can claim that they could do this at the twilight of their career.

What is sad is that already I am craving to see Wasim bowl an over, for the shear experience, just once more? The greatest that ever was!

I still remember that yorker...
by Jayaram on May 20, 2003 01:43 PM

I still remember that yorker which sent alan Lamb off the feild with an injured toe. And i still remember that great inswinger that took Cris lewis's off stump to get Pakistan the World cup. The Sultan of Swing aka Wasim Akram - Legend born and Legend he will remain.
I would miss him. I will miss his action, a unique one truely. And most of all, I miss his broad smile and charm. I would mis his style of appealing, I would mis his way of patting a good batsman. i would miss his sportsmanship, I would miss Him. At the end of it all, I would like to watch Akram back in the feild to bowl atleast one ball.
I hope that rediff sends these messages to Akram to convey our feelings for him and the respect we have for him. I hope he is included as a trainer in the MRF pace foundation. Let the fast bowlers learn from him. Hats off to this legendary Sultan of Swing.
