good move
by HB on May 18, 2003 01:34 PM

now that is a very selfless acct by the goverment, think of all the money the politicians would have made besides all the money that they get from the the taxes paid by the ppl, now atleast the players are getting what they deserve ,and who knows they might contribute some of that amount and bring it to better use than would have been used for otherwise...

BE GRATEFUL!!!!
by Rupak on May 17, 2003 01:35 PM

hi....
well, the money they have been allowed to keep is teh money they earned playing for the country and there is no bigger incentive than letting them keep it all and not giving the country a material share of the sweat and blood the had given up!!! The country and the public have gained and that is from the fame we have as the world's second best cricket team.
And it is not state wealth that they are squandering it is their own hard earned money! there is saying in malayalam, "there is no cure for baldness and jealousy!!" thast wat I have to say,.... learn to be grateful to those young men.

by Ajay on May 16, 2003 09:38 PM

Its a worst decision taken by the Govt. By this way govt is doing discrimination. Its a good reason of inequallity of rights in a democretic country like india. Its a boolshit decision taken by govt i will suggest everybody not to pay tax to protest this decision

Tax exemption to Cricketers
by Viswanathan Nair on May 16, 2003 08:16 PM

Tax exemption is rediculous. zif you earn you have to pay tax. Under no circumstances tax should be waived. How much money is paid to junior level cricketers or the state cricketers of Kerala or Assam. Top sports nation like USA never pays any money to sports persons. Our officials and politicians are competing each other in squandering state wealth, this is another example of ti.

appreciated
by shastri on May 16, 2003 07:35 PM

It is highly appreciated gesture from govt, but pls. take it with a pinch of salt. the reason being they are doing to hog the lime light and not to show that they are behind indian team. why cant they generously develop other sports and also get others who are not paying tax for eons. this is the most incapable govt for many years.

When someone gets a reward they don't deserve it...Right ?
by Nandu on May 16, 2003 07:02 PM

Cricketers have to pay taxes but only when they did the country proud the country responded. And how much do they really make ? Among the hundreds of aspiring cricketers 15 to 20 make it to the top and they get some money when such a big event comes up. If they make 70 million and if the Govt takes 30 million away, It is a bad bargain, I definitely will not encourage my children to take up sports. I'd rather let them go to management school because they will definitely make more and have a higher chance of success. Rather than face very heavy odds and if you win something the whole nation is going be disgruntled about you making some money. Come on guys 15 out of a billion people get a tax break and you have a problem. Just because you think you are not getting enough you want communism to come along. All of us typing these responses should sell our PCs and send the money to the poor of India. Our Poverty line will evaporate, but will you do that, ofcourse No, because you earned your PC right and so
have they. For once they have made us proud so learn to give back.

Hypocrisy
by johnaldrich on May 16, 2003 06:37 PM

Hi guys,

This is for all those eternal critics who are criticising the governments decision to waive tax for the Indian Cricket Team.

You guys are the biggest hypocrites. You dont want to make the kind of investment they have made for becoming world class cricketers. You are like those bunch of jokers, the commentators, who only make comments as to how a ball should have been played. When these were the same guys who batted for 60 overs to score 25 runs.

Dont brood. They are the best 11 players in this country of a billion. You believe the team has to do better than what they have done, then go & play for yourself and prove you are better than them. I am sure you may not even figure in your gullie team.

It is like the journalist critising P T Usha for not winning the Gold in the Olympics. I had to ask this guy as to how many golds he had earned for his school. He cant run 50 metres without gasping or coughing and then sits on the sidelines and crticisizes others who have the courage to come and perform.

Nobody is stopping these critics and hypocrites to come and perform better than the current crop of talent. If You have the guts come and do it & U will get the glory

Tax exemption
by jayanrag on May 16, 2003 06:36 PM

There is no reason why the cricketers need to be given tax exemption. They are just doing their jobs. Let the Govt give exemption to the armed forces who are risking thier lives on the frontiers everyday!
