I have been following the Indian Cricket perfomances recently and feel I could do a better job then these so called coaches!!! come on guys wake up and lets play
The cacamity of the hockey team at the Olympics was not surprising, when one sees that the Indian team was practicing in the US the weels before the events, lets start from scratch and see where we end up.

Why Fast Pitches?
by Kiran on May 14, 2003 06:58 PM

When we get Visitors, we should play to our strengths and it is these pitches. People don't create Spinner friendly pitches when we are visitors. Look what they did in NZ.
We should change pitches for local games in minor grounds. But leave out Major ones where we intend to play more International Cricket.

we have been hearing abt this for a long time and nothing has been done so far leave alone a lot of talking and blaming of each other, what else can u expect the money minded, selfish publicity craving bcci officials. i vividly remember the pitches committee instituted under srikkanth and kapil had clearly made several recommendations which were pushed under the carpet by the bcci as rubbish. now its funny to hear them say to the contrary. bcci just cannot say any kind of rubbish of this kind.

We feel very sorry for the state of pitches even after having the richest cricket board in the world and heavily paid staff(only hon. members) that there ia no will or commitment to upgrade the game the only commitment we c when to collect adv money(before time)

Little Master is absolutely spot on.
by Vasan on May 13, 2003 03:19 AM

The Little master is spot on. We need to be playing cricket on faster wickets. The main problem we have been having over the last 50 years. Perhaps the length of time we have been playing cricket. We dont have more than two fast bowlers even ready for selection. Neither do we have players who can competitively play fast bowling.

If you remember the ashes played may be in the last 3 years. Micheal Slater started of the innings Hitting Darren Gough for 18 runs in the first over of a series. It was the first test match. I could see that England lost the initiative after the first over. I dont say we need to slay the bowling. We need to play the bowling to its merit. I guess that can be improved only if we play on sporting Wickets.

The problem is not pitches, but lack of money in the domestic tournaments. Why cannot India have a tournament like NBA, NFL, NHL as in USA. It is easy to say and brush aside the comparison. Again there is a problem of people willing to watch a ranji trohpy match for 5 days !!! 5 day Cricket does not make any sense, Cricket should be played in the night and that too only 1 day format.

Pitches

Faisal mentions that the groundsmen reported that Kapil and Srikkanth told them to make pitches according to their likes. I'm not so sure on that. I remember reading earlier that Srikkanth, when he was chairman of the pitches committee (after being unceremoniously dumped from the position of India A coach despite a good record and not given a chance to coach the senior team) was frustrated with the job because the groundsmen would not listen to his pleas to make a sporting track. The Indian team management also interfered with the pitch preparation since they were afraid to lose on home soil. I do recall reading that Srikkanth and his committee members were ordered to stay out of Wankhede on the eve of a test match since they were perceived to be interfering in the preparation of the pitch. So it might not be entirely correct to blame them for pitches not improving during their tenure. If you make them head of a committee, you should also give them sweeping powers to put into effect their recommendations. But in Indian cricket, everything is a compromise and I'm sure these gentlemen quit when they found that they were paper tigers. I would blame the administration for this.
