Das would have been right choice
by Kamalakanta on Jul 19, 2003 07:56 PM

Das is not given oppurtinity. He is a world class player and can play well in any condition where Badani has been proved as fail. Badani is no where in comparision to Das.

Always Orissa cricketers are judged in a different scale. There should be a movement against it. The first thing to target is the replacement of Patel.

Badani's appointment
by Rashmiranjan Mohanty on Jul 02, 2003 06:33 AM

All said and done, why Mr. Patel wakes up all at a sudden and announces this change in plan ?
If it's a collective decision taken jointly by all the selectors, then why wasn't it announced before the teams' departure? Why this had to come amidst a game that team is already playing against the hosts?
Didn't they know then that poor das has to captain the side for 11 times and hence need to rest? I can only hope they have a sound reason here.

It's all hyprocrisy and BCCI is used to this dirty region game.Historically they have been less forgiving to the mistakes of unfortunates like Das while likes of Badanis and Agarkars have been consitently tried and tested. with all his falacies(That he is slow, he isn't a good choice for One dayer etc etc), SS Das has never been given enough chances to prove himself.

Ridiculous substantiation
by bhushan on Jul 01, 2003 10:23 PM

How does Mr. Patel and his team of selections know that Das will need rest only when the one-day matches are played. Everybody knows that when the captain is injured or rested, the vice-captain takes up the mantle. Given that, why do you have to name Badani captain for the one-day matches when you already know that he will captain in any match that Das cannot play. Why not give the actual reason instead of trying to be diplomatic which further worsens the situation.

Leave it alone..

I think the whole issue is being blown out of proportions.. Brijesh Patel was a wonderful cricketer & was always a no nonsense guy.., and I believe he would be "balanced" selector as well. It is time that people stop seeing all selectors with jaundiced eyes.

why is rediff hell bent on making this a big issue? no sane person will buy the argument that das is a better ODI player than badani...then where the hell is the problem? please take a break!

Board at its discriminatory best
by Deepak Mohanty on Jul 01, 2003 08:57 AM

In the only one-dayer that Das played in the New Zeland tour, he was the highest scorer. Last year during the Indian tour of England, Das was not allowed to play in the tests, even though he scored the highest(250) against Essex in a four day match. And now when Das scored the highest runs for India-A, he has not been named the captain for the one-dayers.

Only a dud can miss out a pattern in these. The board does its best to stifle any talent from a state with little clout in the cricketing arena.

Plain Rubbish !
by Suresh Pillai on Jul 01, 2003 06:11 AM

Brijesh is talking nonsense .If captain cannot play any of the matches on a tour, vice captain would take over the mantle, all right ...but this is the first time I hear of a vice captain being elevated to the captain's role even before the tour starts for specific matches because chairman of selectors thinks that the originally appointed captain needs rest in the midst of a tour !! This is utter nonsense.

patel on badani
by A.K.Dhawan on Jul 01, 2003 05:31 AM

Very interesting Mr. Patel. You rest the captain from the first match of the tour. In anycase how can you decide sitting in India who needs rest. Whilst Badani has not been successful in one dayers [ little selfish ] Das has not been given much oppurtunity in ODI's. In the match against Durham, Das had the best strike rate, which means he is trying to accelerate.

The selection of team itself was not very fair on top of that such interfernce. More and Patel need to be removed from the selection panel.

Badani is not a das in England
by Baba handa on Jul 01, 2003 01:48 AM

I fully agree with Patel. Our media tends to be blinkered in their thinking and usually has limited knowledge on the subject of their choice, in this case cricket. Stay off and let them do their job Riti. We have enough journalists trying to pass off as cricketers, as it is. Prem Pannicker, Sujata & Co come readily to mind.

this is the dumbest article ever
by prashanth on Jun 30, 2003 11:54 PM

hey ... this article is like a sequel to a crappy movie ..the first article itself was a inane piece, now the lead up.while all attempts were being made this spiteful reporter to show badani in a poor light . why dont utake in to consideration that while das is a good test player ,he is too slow even by test standards to be named in a one day side . as far form goes , how come u seem to easily forget badani's fantastic hundred in the ranji trophy finals in a high pressure situation . he has also played several sparkling one day knocks . now WHAT DID DAS DO IN THE RANJI TROPHY.he's extremely lucky to be in the squad , captaincy is a bonus. brijesh patel is right u r making a controversy out of nothing
