Am not too sure if Smith should've spoken now. It wouldve been more prudent to wait for a couple of games. Its all fine to talk now, he should prove himself worthy of all that talk.
Mr.Smith is taking a heck of a gamble, for sure.If he doesn't perform on the field, as well as he does off the field,he might as well retire. Any chances of him retaining the place as a specialist batsmen under a different captain are nil.He ensured that himself with his comments about Kluesner and Bob Woolmer.
I like this chap...he has authority in his voice which is required for a captain. The problem with Pollock always was, he never was able to turn down Hansie factor in his team. Even likes of Gibbs had mouth to say anything to their captain! I'm sure under smith no one will dare keep singing song of Hansie Cronje anymore. Great cricketer that Cronje was, one can never forget that he was a match fixer. I read Graeme Smith's interview in guardian and pretty impressed with his one minded approach and hunger for success.
