javed was someone we will never like, coz he was not excatly fond of indians, and he had his reasons. however from a cricketing point of view, he was truely outstanding in the sense, he had the aggression that the current australian team is famous for. he was never scared on the field but made sure the opposition was. his outbursts against australia specially lille is part of cricket folklore. and it was good to see someone fighting againt those white cricketers. his last ball six against india in sharjah may hurt us till date, but u have to admire the man to keep his cool in a tense situation, even if the ball was a fulltoss, he still needed to connect it well, and in a pressure situation it is not easy to do so. but he did connect it well, and there were many more great innings he played including an innings on 260 against england. javed was a great fighter and we all must learn from him the never say die spirit.

Cmon guys, give the pakis a break, let them feel good about miandad. We all know that Sunny and SACHIN TENDULKAR are the best batsmen ever to have played international cricket, so, let them feel good about something.

You know that its very rare for pakis to boast about something, other than their millitant groups in kashmir!!!!!!

Miandad is nothing compared to Sunny or SACHIN TENDULKAR.

talk about boasting...just look at the record of india and pak matches. Pak won 47 versus 26 of india. India has always been a team full of super star batsmen who score centuries on dusty indian pitches and ducks abroad. Also don't forget about 2 Pakistani test series wins on Indian home soil. In one gavaskar was out to let his team loose and in the other one it was tendulakr letting his team down.

Also don't forget that india has not won a test series outside its home for almost quarter of a century now! so much for a good team.

Need more facts or have you gotten your fix?

And by the way...try generating a genuine fast bowler for a change too. Maybe you should send your guys to Pakistan for training where real fast bowlers are born.

Miandad's Sharjah Innings
by Vishal on Jul 09, 2003 10:42 AM

Just to add to what people have said abt Miandad's cricket acumen - I had the pleasure to be present in Sharjah when he single-handedly beat India with that 'last ball' six. To my mind, it is one of the best one day innings ever played under extreme pressure. While all of us Indian fans were very disappointed after the match, everyone was gracious to shower immense praise on his supreme effort. From that day onwards, India could never be sure of beating Pakistan unless they could get Miandad out cheaply (which did not happen often). Hats off to the batting maestro.

Naveed,

Miandad could mean a lot to Pakistanis, but to us Indians he just could not paly a fair game. We have watched him enough on the TV and even his hardcore fans can't deny the fact that he overdid it.

C'mon guys! The man was a great cricketer. Period! Whatever his personality is or is not should not matter! I am sure young cricketers can learn a thing or two not just from his talent but from his gutsy temperament on the field!

Javed Miandad
by Quizman on Jun 20, 2003 12:16 AM

The comments made by the two gentlemen are in bad taste. Javed was a tough competitor, even behaved abominably on the field. However, he was quite friendly with the Indian cricketers and he was a darn good batsmen against swing bowling. Contrast that to Imran, who is feted in social circles in India, but writes articles in which he sympathizes with the fundamentalists of Kashmir. Incidentally, Javed and Gavaskar are great friends.

Alright Shankar, so Rediff did publish your 'fair' assessment. That disproves your first assumption. And all the rest of what you have written wasnt worth publishing as well. Miandad is one of the shrewdest cricketers and the person who led the Pakistan team out on a victory of the ground at Chennai in 1999. Obviously you werent there!! Bharath

Well, I know my 2 cents won't be worth much but I just wanted to lent out my feelings. I feel blessed that I was able to watch the batting talent of Sunny Gavaskar, Vishwanath, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Viv Richards and of course Sachin Tendulkar. Each of them will always be special to me. By the way you might know that Sachin Tendulkar has mentioned that Suuny Gavaskar and Imran Khan were his idols when he was growing up.

Come on guys. Thats Miandad's personality. And he behaved the same with everybody else. Remember the Lilee incident. But I am sure nobody can disagree that he was a great player and was the most feared player in the Pakistani team. Please give due credit where it deserves. Dont you yourself go on a warmongering way.

Miandad was a tough cookie on the field and he gave back probably more than what he got. He was also probably one of the first to indulge in sledging (even b4 the aussies perfected the 'art'). However, nobody can deny that he was a great batsman, the best that Pakistan produced and one of the greatest in the world during his time.

Accepting that does not make us Indians any lesser. Grow up guys. We have our Sachin, Sourav and Sunil, who are as good as any....

Stop the hate mongering.

Come on man!! If you love cricket, then you should learn respecting the players because cricket is all aout gentleness and character. Although Miandad didn't have good sense of behaviour on the pitch(especially against Indians) but he was a great cricketer of his era and his achievments can never be neglected. One more thing to be noticed that in his autobiography, he appreciates Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Azharuddin and many other Indian cricketers of his time which shows his gentleness.

Well Shankar and Prakash!.
I am sorry to say how narrow minded you guys are. Nobody can challenge the authority Javed holds in the game of cricket. Dont believe me or Dr Saad in what we say about him, just ask your own little master SUNNY GAVASKAR. Winning against Indians doesnot make him idiot, short tempered or sick. But in the end Guys you are right to be furious, he really kicked your a **. Sorry about that, I mean being kicked.

Well said Shankar..
That idiot Miandad was a short tempered and sick person. he was not a gentle man in the cricket fields.
and that idiot Doctor is trying to show that Miandad as his God....
Miandad was not knowing the basics of Cricket.

I think both of you guys are blinded by the passion of hatred. Its true that we Indians donot go well with our neighbouring country but if a person has a genuine talent it should always be admired. If he did not know the basis of cricket then he would such a big match winner. Problems can be solved with mutual respect for each other but not with hatred.

Hi Guys,It clearly shows ur frustration. One should give due respect to players os extraordinary talent. Miandad was one of them.
Here my pakistani friends admire Sachin. Why??? Since he is such a damn good player. So why shouldn't we give due credit to Miandad who was also a great in his era.

Guys its one thing abusing Miandad and the author. But its quite another thing to appreciate that both Miandad and the author have not downplayed the fact that Miandad indulged in Gamesmanship. as good a player he was he was also a master at psyching out the opponent. As true fans of cricket you should be well aware that this game has as much to do with the mind as it has to do with skill. Miandad was a master tactician and no less a person than Sunil Gavaskar admits to that or for that matter Miandad's greatest rival Imran Khan himself. Stop licking your wounds, that does not do any credit to you. If anger is seething within you then find a more appropriate way to channelise it rather than trying to kick the pedestal on which Miandad stands. You will only bring ridicule on yourself.
