i think we have let go an asset we had
by Gowtam on Jun 13, 2003 10:44 AM

fitness is one of the most important factor in the modern version of the game. The result?? the indian team were able to acheive for the past one year.Though india lost to ausies in finals they r in at the peak or at their best from the past one year.
this happed as the players were able to perform to such a greater extent which directly points to their fitness.with quick and agile players like yuvraj, kaif the fielding standerds has increased dramatically which is having a direct impact on other players, who r also trying to meet the standerds. The credit should go to the physical trainner who has helped the players in maitaining their fitness levels so that they could jump around, fall in the field etc which waz a rare view in the indian cricket history.
apart from that andrew had jelled so well with the team that their positives and the approach to the game was appreciable.at this point of time to have another physio is very difficult.it takes time to jell with the team and to know the weakness and strengths of each players, what they have to concentrate, will be an extremely diff task.a fitness strategy for zaheer might not be the same as sachin.so ultimately we have lost an asset

The BCCI is to blame...
by Shrikar Dorai on Jun 11, 2003 02:58 AM

I read the news of Le Roux quitting Team-India with some concern. I get the feeling that the BCCI could have easily avoided this if it had only acted a little sooner and not waved a whole lot red tape in the trainer's face with claims about having to receive the Working Committee's approval etc. To make matters worse it appears as though the BCCI has still not learnt its lesson. Even now, they are saying that no contract will be offerred to Le Roux's replacement ! In this day and age it is difficult to imagine any professional worth his salt who would be prepared to accept a 'loose arrangement with the BCCI' in lieu of a formal contract. Just what planet do they (BCCI) think they are living in ? As a regular Rediff subscriber I would like to request that you utilize your contacts in the game and do an in-depth article on this entire fiasco explaining to your readers exactly what happened in the days/weeks running up to Le Roux's announcement.
Thanks.
-sd.
