I am surprised and dismayed by the lack of tolerance of our cricket fans. Can¡¯t anybody have an opinion? There is difference of opinion regarding whether there are other people who are better than Tendulkar or not. Just accept that and move on. Why this irritable habit on the part of the Indian fans to defend Tendulkar as the greatest batsman now playing cricket and to bay for the blood of anybody who thinks to the contrary? Does this baying make him the best? Or does it betray a sense of insecurity on their (the fans')part? How do you define 'greatest¡¯ anyway? Is there any unique criterion? I strongly feel that this kind of attitude unnecessarily makes Tendulkar more vulnerable to further critical comments (it has become an ideal platform of vested interests to taunt the Indian fan by questioning the pedestal on which they have put him, and sell more copies. The poor player, who never claimed that he is the competition, is the real victim). Finally, how does it matter to the game of cricket whether he is the greatest or he is the fourth?
come on mr. lindlaw & mr. waugh just leave this job & let the new & fresh writers come on the scene. now a days its just become a fashion to compare anybody who is scoring runs with Sachin, is that really make sense, just because a guy scoring some runs gives the critics & so called writers a chance to feel the limelight. If ponting is doing well that doesnt made tendulkars performance anything less. Thats certainly not a new thing for Indians to hear these comparative comments everytime a new batsmen score some runs either u take the example of Inzimam, brian lara, Hayden, or vaughn the list is endless & so as the comparison with tendulkar.
tendulkar is great not just for his run making ability but for following reasons (Ponting or any other batsmen can never touch these criteria) 1. tendulkar has scored runs in all conditions, whatever be the circumstances & whosoever is the bowler. 2. Live up to the expectations, everytime he goes to bat millions of people looks for no less than a hundred. 3. balanced when play the shots, comfortable with both fron & back foot. 4. Head remains dead straight with elbow upright. 5. never gives up even if wickets are falling on other end.
The biggest joke of the year is ponting is better allround batesman than tendulkar. nooooo way. i never see ponting faced any of the fast bowlers with confident and comfort. He always failed against shoib, shane bond, wasim, caddick. He is very lucky to be an australian, that he do not need to face his own bowlers lee, mcgrath and gillespie. so never compare ponting even with his own country men gilchrist or hayden. Then how could u do it with The All Time Great Sachin. hahahahahahahahah
I was tickling myself to laugh when I read Mark Waugh saying Ponting is a better all round batsman than Sachin! Following titles will tell you what I think of Ponting. 1. Walker across the stumps (shuffles a lot) 2. Cat on a hot tin roof (Rewind to 2001 tour and you will know how he plays spin bowling)
I feel it is more because of the bowler's lack of plan that he succeeds. I would npot have minded if India lost WC to Aus after a Gilly ton. But they made this fellow score the runs. Phew!
Hope they tame this fellow in the tour to down under and show him his place.
I think these both guys doesn't know what Sachin is,when a Batsman is certified from a Legend like Don Bradman ,I quote "when I see him (Sachin) batting,I feel as if myself batting again " Now still people go on comparing others with Sachin ..is rubbish. My dear Mark and Laidlaw...expand your vision and don't compare any tom , dick and harry with Sachin, Sachin is SHARK of the cricketing ocean and other Toms like Ricky-Micky and Chicky are like Frogs from a muddle..!! So grow up and STOP comparing others with Sachin, his is a different class altogether.

Mark Waugh is absolutely correct. Ponting is much better than Tendulkar in the sense he scores more useful centuries. Who can forget his epic 140* in the WC final ? ( And the "epic 4, c & b Mcgrath in the same match by the "so-called" greatest batsman on the earth" ). Ponting scored a great century (100*) when chasing 330 against SA in the fourth innings of a test which Tendulkar has never done. And it was Laxman who outplayed Australia in Calcutta with his brilliance and not Tendulkar. Ponting is a great captain and is leading Aus to great heights. Soon,he will be the captain of the Aussie Test team too and no doubt he will continue from where the legendary Steve Waugh left through his wonderful, pleasant batting and great captaincy.

Pointing is certainly a better player of pace bowling. But his deficiencies against playing spin is well known. So, he does not even qualify to be among "all round players". Having said that, he is one of the exciting batsmen in world cricket now.
