retrospect

In retrospect, it is easy to comment whether a bowler should have done that and not this. I would have appreciated this article, had it been written well before the match.

Umpiring & Kumble
by Jignesh on Jan 01, 2004 09:46 AM

I was not able to watch the match, but from the match reports I had read, it seems that there were several simple LBW decisions during Indian balling going against Indian side and also, the wicket of Akash Chopra in second innings. If that's so, why the issue is not that hot when it was during the dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar in first innings of first match.

Is such a tremendous improvement in Kumble's performance wicketswise relative to that during 1999 tour due to the nature of the pitches or enough opportunity (in terms of number of overs) given by the captain or just improvement in Kumble's balling? Wouldnot it be a great pyschological help by bringing Kumble first change and giving him the sense of responsibility and, hence, the more motivation?

Line of Duty!!!

Zaheer K should not have played at MCG without recovering! Fitness tests have been such a farce!
Harbhajan S was on a plane to Australia for treatment and not for the test series! This can happen only under the watchful eye of our BCCI!!!
Srinath has donned the advisory cloak! My opinion is that he has not performed his duties in full for India! While he benefitted under the guidance & grooming of the Awesome-Amazing Kapil D, I would say that Srinath has been found wanting in this department. He, in my opinion has not done his part to groom the current India bowling line-up!

indian team's loss at MCG
by gyanendra on Dec 31, 2003 03:32 PM

we all know that the aussies were helped a lot by the umpires. and that also by somebody like david shepherd. why does the australian team has to depend on umpire support for victory. it was always a lost match for india once the umpires are playing against them.

strategy for Hayden
by tvk on Dec 31, 2003 01:48 PM

very true from srinath.
But india seem to lack a strategy to get Hayden out.
From his foortwork & batting even in second innings
& from his dismissals it is very clear
1. Hayden is confident in plonting a front foot outside off
2. the way his bat comes down, he would be comfortable in playing any good length ball on the stumps & angling across
Rather bowlers should come around the wicket and bowl good length balls slightly wide of his offstump, and we have already seen hayden reach for such balls & get out caught behind twice - once off zaheer & once off pathan.
Also hayden penchance to drive in air down the ground can be used, challenge him with a long off for kumble & possibly Karthik - hayden has gotten out to similatr strokes to vettori when they were down under.
Does Ganguly read these comments BTW ? ; )
