Third test
by Virendra on Dec 31, 2003 11:29 AM

India lost the match after a brilliant start on the first day. for winning a match you have to play good cricket for all five days & I think tale enders should pull up there socks as they could do nothing in both innings like a local school level team.

Use of Technology to adjudge LBW decisions
by K.Shankar on Dec 31, 2003 03:33 AM

Hello,

I think ICC should seriously consider use of technology to adjudicate LBW decisions, considering the frequent inconsistencies of even experienced and reputed neutral umpires. As more cricket is played round the year and umpires are forced to stand in more matches, human failings are inevitable.
In the Melbourne test (India Vs Australia) I was shocked to hear a channel nine Commentator remarking that the umpire put up his finger readily since the batsman was a tail ender and that he would have thought very hard if it was a top order batsman!

Sure enough use of TV replays would take away the spontaneity of the game but it will result in correct judgement of LBW appeals specially the close ones and eliminate "human" errors!!

Any comments?

Dubious Umpiring Decisions
by Arpan on Dec 31, 2003 01:39 AM

No one can deny the fact that the Indian team was outplayed by the Aussies. At the same time, no one can even deny another fact (a bitter one) - the wrong umpiring decisions! It is quite logical that umpires, like us, are mere mortals & can make mistakes. After all, to err is human. A few errors here & there by an umpire is digestable BUT the same doesn't hold true with the plethora of dubious decisions that have been adjudged by the umpires officiating in the ongoing India-Australia series. More than the 22 players, it is the umpires (with their flawed decisions) who have played a major role in influencing the outcome of the series. & God knows why is India at the receiving end on most occasions? The purpose of introducing neutral umpires for Tests was instigated by ICC to shun or curtail wrong (& biased) verdicts but is this purpose being served? The answer is simple - NO! In no other sport (including those where umpires/referees have to run along with the players) will one witness so many errorneous verdicts. Of late, umpiring in cricket has become a joke! It is high time that ICC adopts modern scientific approach to ensure fair play, even at the cost of slowing down the game!

Head for the Next .. forget the loss!!
by Rupak on Dec 30, 2003 11:10 PM

So what if India lost this match. At the end of the day the scorecard read 9 wicket win, but this wasn't a one sided match by any way. India fought with whatever they had and Australia were better on the day.
I think Indians get the hunger for victory and bag the series. High time man, waiting for Tendu's 100. Wanna see Indian's fit and fine and hopefully the umpires be a less biased

Melborne Match
by shekararaju on Dec 30, 2003 07:29 PM

I think Gangully and Sachin Should play more resposible innings like laxman who got less
Pshycological advantage than senior players.

I don't know why laxman Plays with so much Fear
Whether he fears for his place in the team/Bowler/loss of Match/senior player.
Laxman might have played much Freely like his earlier 165. Laxman should play much more freely with his natural technique rather than having rigid thoughts in his mind.

Match Saving
by shekararaju on Dec 30, 2003 07:08 PM

Is it impossible to save the Match by Ganguly.
I think Being a Captain Gangully Must have played a Longer Innings than Dravid

I think Ganguly is depending on others for saving and Winning matches. Why can't he play the match saving and winning performance.

No team is invincible
by lgaur on Dec 30, 2003 06:34 PM

It's a game where a combination of talent and hardwork win most of the times. But, often luck and missed opportunities also play a significant role.
Talent: Australia shows a slight edge in both batting and bowling while India may have a slight edge in fielding.
Luck: I guess the misjudgement on Akaash Chopra's wicket was a bad break. It is hard to know how much one wicket is worth in terms of runs as it tends to have a domino affect on the rest of the batting order.
Missed opportunities: India had a golden opportunity to rack up a lot more runs in the first innings. No excuse to lose five wickets so cheaply after such a valient effort by the first four wickets (the last five batsmen scored a paltry 3 runs; four ducks!). This was not a rarity. They go repeat the same reckless or nervous batting in the second innings (last four batsmen score two runs with two ducks!) You can't expect to win games with this kind of batting ever.
They had nobody to blame but their incompetant batting to blame for this loss (lack of concentration coupled with nerves ). No team is invincible, but India DESPARATELY NEEDS TWO MORE BOWLERS THAT CAN ACTUALLY HOLD A BAT.

Back to Square One

Indeed the victory at Adelaide test was great. But India succumbed so easily that it did not put a stiff fight at all in their second innings. Perhaps it reminded that class is permanent and form - temporary!!!
