Fourth Cricket Test, India vs Australia
by Jayant Kumar on Jan 01, 2004 11:12 PM

When Shehwag blasts, India looses. Remember his two centuries in Newzealand. His quick century is great in one day but the same thing turns into disadvantage in the test man . So, Sehwag Please learn to bat for long hours . We will never loose a test match

Fantastic!!
by Sandeep Jain on Dec 29, 2003 07:31 PM

I truly agree with you, sir!. You have pointed out all the right things in your article. I am also of the view that the present Indian team is not a match for this Australian squad. They are the best at present and we have to simply accept it. If India( or any other team for that sake) has to dethrone them then they have to show better consistency than the Australians. And don't forget that that requires 75% win record which is simply awesome. I am not saying that this is impossible to get but it requires lot more than what we have at present.
People tend to forget that recently we lost world cup and one day series(in INDIA!!) to Australians. They have beaten us so many times that one win against them here and there doesn't make any difference. So instead of gloating over our win we should concentrate on what is ahead and try to make this win as the first step towards the throne of world champions which is in my opinion still miles away.

If they would have batted slow they would have scored less
by Vishal Gupta on Dec 26, 2003 01:25 PM

Dear Sir,
I totally disagree with you that if the australians would have batted slow the match would have ended in a draw , instead i say that India would have won the match much easily because would have batted for the same no. of sessions and Kumble (whio has been forgotten for his second day performance ) in any way would have cleared the australian line up. And the score would not have been more than 300-350 for the australians in the first innings.
What do you say about this fact.
Vishal

Is One defeat takes it all
by Ravi on Dec 24, 2003 11:23 PM

I wonder how small is peoples memory and their loyalty is ? Just few months back when we lost first match in world cup, they behaved like fools and now when we defeated australia again they are behaving in the same way but with different direction. I agree we should be positive but not over reaction. We won agaisnt one of greatest team in history but at the same time we are not the only one. England won the 5th test in the last Ashes series. No Indian paper mentioned about that.

Why is it called Plan B?
by Raju on Dec 23, 2003 08:39 PM

Its good that you raised a point regarding Plan B. I cannot agree with you or any one who says that a team, how strong it may be, doesn't have an alternative plan, how strong the actual plan may be, and still is said to be doing the right thing.

A team cannot be on top if they do not know how to bat according to the situation. The Adelaide test is the best example.

Nobody supports a team which plays like a one-day (limited overs) game when they have 5 days of play. We all know how much stress a bowling team takes when they are kept on for a long time for feilding by the batting team.

This is what Dravid is good at. He said he not plays the bowlers but also time. At the end of the day he gets runs too under his name. Even Lara who made the highest runs in a test over said he was inspired from the way Dravid and Laxman batted.

It is a pity that you could not accept the hard earned win by indians who came back into the game from the situation of no win for them.

In a way your article helps the Indian team to come down to earth and play the remaining test matches with caution.

Typical Indian writing
by Alex Jacob on Dec 23, 2003 07:19 PM  | Hide replies

Wow.. Nothing less than the expected!!!!

This is why people say that India will never come up.
Our attitude in such articles and the portals like Rediff show it!

When we win, we never acknowledge that. On the other hand we are supporting the loser!

Whenever India leads or scores high, Rediff just keeps quiet and whenever Aussies are in command, you write it well!

Very good guys, keep this up.

This is how one must reflect the pride of a whole nation for defeating the crownless kings of Test Cricket!

Tell me, who could do it in the near past?
Could SA do it? Could Pakistanis do it?
And when India did it, you are silent?

We must learn to celebrate our victories however small it is.
If that is the case how exuberantly we should celebrate this nothing less than a magnificent victory?

Guys it is high time to change the attitude of negative writing or negative reporting whatever you call it! We are a developing nation, in fact a very fast developing one!

We must not forget that such wins and victories certainly uplifted the morale of the simple mass here, which you call laymen!

A common Indian man.

RE:Typical Indian writing

The author is not undermining the Indian win but just reminding that we still has lot of work at hand to truely beat australians and for that matter any other team. The Indian team is praiseworthy for the win but is also reminding that this should translate to long term habit of winning and not short durations like WC'83 , WS'85 Hero cup and WC'03 showings. Lets admit that Indian team has been inconsistent (remember the home series against NZ) and also that the present lot has the potential to be consistently beat all the teams. (Unless selectors and BCCI mess up the selections they are so good at)

The other point the author is raising is that for aussies this loss was an aberration. They will come back at MCG with more resolve and more determination and would try to set the record straight.

One loss does not erase the fact that aussies are still the best. Indian team is arguably the second best in the world.

So don't take it to heart and enjoy the game.

Very good reaction
by ARVIND PRATAP SINGH on Dec 23, 2003 03:20 PM

Indeed this is a very good spirit shown by John Buchann. The contents of the report has been heart touching and will have deep deep effect on the minds of tough mighty Australians. It will certanily pump tired Australians.Beware India.Looking at the contents of the reports and length of letters I rate Sir John Buchann as No :1 coach.I haven't seen such a coach like that. The report also clearly shows , how to tackle frustration , anger and defeat at odd times .May be India needs a coach like him for future assignments.

a pattern..
by Koidy on Dec 23, 2003 03:18 PM

While i agree that India has flattered to deceive often in the past, i think the fact that three of the five "high points" of indian cricket mentioned by you have been acheived by the same team, within two years is VERY significant.. and that's not to mention victory in the ICC knockout and the rtriumphant march to the world cup final.... i truly sense golden days ahead..... this is a YOUNG team...

It is funny
by Punu on Dec 23, 2003 03:06 PM

You have blamed everybody else for hounding Australia after just one defeat.

And then you yourself go on to announce India as the next world champions. All that on the basis of just one test win. It is very funny that the whole of India have suddenly started imagining themselves as world champions, after just one win.

With the current team we have India can never achieve what Australia have achieved.
