the article on india's last win in australia does'nt say anything about the famous controversial decisions by australian umpires in India' first innings-at the end of which sunil gavaskar, the indian captain was about to stage a walk-out with his team. it was only the manager (durrani or wadekar, i am not very sure) whose better judgement of letting the game be continued which made india won the match. hats of to the then manager, who has been conviniently forgotten by you-shankar
After reading the story of last victory in 1981 by Indians in Australia. At that point of time I was also hearing the comentry during this test when I was sixteen. I use to listen radio comentry while I was sleeping under the blanket. I used to rise early at 5 pm and listen the comentry. And I also recall the incident when in Brisbane test Gavaskar was given LBW out which he was not. Taking note to this Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan came back to the pavillion in this protest, but later on the match was resumed. And also I recall the magnificient and blasting batting by Sandip Patil. Thanks for your story.
* patil made 24 in the first innings, not 23 as reported * australia was set 143 to win, not 142 * walters was better known as doug walters, not kevin walters * you have not mentioned greg chappell's famous duck against karsan ghavri * you have ignored the fact that kapil took 5-28 inspite of a ankle injury * you have not mentioned that where border, chappell and others failed on a pitch breaking up, only the great kim hughes (24) and walters (18) could come to terms with the conditions and india's nagging accuracy * you have not mentioned patil's heroics in this series
