Sachin

Sachin is like a dam waiting to burst & it will happen now in the second innings of boxing day test match.

He is in a very good nick as well contrary to what impression people might get. Proof of that is the way he got out to Brett Lee's first ball. Don't get me wrong - almost all of other batsman in the world would have missed that ball by inches.

Mark my words & don't miss his batting next.

Ganguly certainly is a good Leader
by Santosh Lokhande on Dec 22, 2003 04:05 PM

I seriously want to answer all those who write off players like Sachin, Saurav.
Pls do your homework properly on these guys. Saurav has won more matches in the entire span of his captaincy than any other Indian Captain. Azhar is ahead but the no of matches captained by him are more than double.
So before you criticize someone pls do your homework.
Let me remind you that Saurav and Sachin both are fantastic players and there records prove the same.

srinath stop worrying about sachin

who cares about sachin? you sound as if he is your god or is it that you just want to be like anyother indian columnist - taking the beaten track and sucking up to sachin. Sachin is a great person - very levelheaded and also a good batsman. But he is yet to prove himself under pressure over the last few years. We've seen him fight for losing causes but he never has had it in him to finish (like Dravid or Miandad or Richards). There is always some excuse which the media comes up for him - either captaincy, batting order, bad umpiring, whatever. I'd be very proud if I'm proved wrong. Lets see! he'll be still young to play the next world cup. we'll wait and see what he can do to the country besides becoming the wealthiest cricketer (and hence tax payer)

Dear Mr Sesh(Or whatever ur name is),
The Column you've written proves the knowledge you have in Cricket.
You're trying to write off a cricketer who is respected by all the bowlers around the world in both Tests and Onedayers. He is the one who was adored by Sir Donald Bradmon.
There is history of his wins against all odds and outside India. I dont want to write the exact year and the country Sachin has done this repeatedly as I think you're intelligent enough to review.
Dravid/Laxman no doubt is a very excellent player but that doesnt mean you can write off a Master.
Pls mail back on my personal email id
santosh_lokhande@hotmail.com if you want a detail of howmany matches were won single handedly by Sachin.

Thanks and Regards
Santosh Lokhande.

Gangulys nil contribution to the win
by Vinod on Dec 16, 2003 04:36 PM  | Hide replies

It is really good that India won and more good because we were feeling at one point that India may loose the test. The credit of this Gose first to Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar and to VVK Laxman. But not at all to ganguly. Ganguly is almost a non playing captain. Tendulkar has taken 2 wickets. First time after a long Tendulkar could bowl. Ganguly is not giving him bowling in the recent times. This is the only good thing he has made. Else Ganguly is not at all a good player. His performance is really bad in last varymany games. Hope Ganguly and Indian selectors will understand something from this ganme.

Dear Mr Sesh,
Pls stop writting off some one who is a fantastic cricket player. It just proves the lack of knowledge.
Do remember the man to get India into finals did win the golden bat award although he couldnt deliver in the finals in which our fantastic bowlers including Srinath had given out batsment a very small total of 350 odd runs to chase against bowlers like Brett Lee and McGrath.

Please have some courtesy towards a great player
Thanks and Regards

Good luck Sachin!

I cannot understand people getting upset when Sachin is criticised. A player of Sachin's calibre and experience should not get out on account of his own fault. If Sachin gets out to good bowling or bad umpiring decisions nobody is going to blame him. The manner in which Sachin is getting out in recent times is because of a lack in confidence which is making him get out to nerves rather than good bowling. Lets hope Sachin overcomes his weakness with the help of Sandy Gordon. No cricket fan wants Sachin to fail. We all want him to get more runs.

What I fail to understand is that the moment Sachin performs poor in match, he often potrayed by the public being a batsman who has lost the 'fire in the belly'. In such a magnificient game, an awesome display of batting by Dravid and Laxman, and very good bowling by Agarkar, Kumble, Nehra people still manage to single out on how poorly Tendulkar played. Well he didn't do much with the bat but did manage to get two crucial wickets??!!

For crying out loud why must he be the one who is only expected to bring the team home? That just doesn't happen. Yes off course I'm a big fan of Sachin, and I'm waiting to see poetry in motion from his bat, but the Indian public needs to have more faith in the Indian team, the TEAM. Applaud the team for the result it has just achieved from the last test match!

The next test is a different story but right savor the victory, don't bicker as to how Tendulkar performed and why he can't be placed a class apart on the basis of not being the man to bring the team home on every match?! Check his numbers, they speak for themselves (PERIOD).

Third Man
by Raghu on Dec 16, 2003 05:29 AM

Dear Srinath,

You have mentioned that 100 runs could have been saved by placing a fielder in the third man region. You are also saying that no bowler would like to waste a fielder by having a third man. I am unable to understand this logic.

For decades teams have managed to have a third man and still give enough fielding options to the bowler to attack / protect. If the bowler is going to consistently stray in line and/or length, even 15 fielders would not be enough.

It is perfectly logical to not have a fielder at cover, midoff, etc. to lure the batsmen to go for their shots. If the batsmen score, then runs were conceded because the batsmen played positively. It is a tribute to the batsman's skills and it presents opportunities to the bowlers to take wickets. But how is it logical to give away 100 runs in an innings because the bowlers bowled well and the batsmen committed mistakes? How is it logical to reward batsmen for their mistakes?

Regards,
Raghu

Sachin Tendulkar
by shwetank on Dec 16, 2003 04:18 AM

Srinath's positive attitude shines through his articles. However, the fact remains that while S R Tendulkar may have great batting statistics and may even be argued (mind you, argued) to be the best batsman in the business today, he is certainly not the master that his marketing campaign makes him out to be. It is very hard for emotional fans of Sachin (me included) to come to terms with this, but Sachin Tendulkar can at best be put in the same class as Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Azharuddin - right at the top of the list, if you want, but not a class apart. NOT in the same club as I would place Kapil Dev, Javed Miandad, Vivian Richards, .... And I have just one benchmark to throw at you for making comparisons between cricketing greats. How much of their contributions have gone towards achieving victory for their team. You'll find that Tendulkar, despite being supported by world class batsmen (Dravid, Ganguly) and world class bowlers (Srinath, Kumble, Harbhajan) has not been instrumental in bringing back the gold. So while Tendulkar's effortless front foot straight drives still keep me awake at nights, India should begin the search for her next hero. Or should we brace for the storm?

sachin
by Debajyoti on Dec 16, 2003 03:21 AM  | Hide replies

Well why worry about sachin at all? When he has to fire he will fire. when he has to fail he will fail. Come on!! he is a normal human being. Failures affect him like others. So why don't we concentrate on a dream called 'India' doing well on a foreign land. After the New Zealand tour it was a dream indeed. But now we can be more assured now. Thanks to the wonderful 'teamwork' not Sachinwork' or 'XYZ' work. Sachin is just not a machine. It might so happen that he has a series without a 50 even. But who is bothered ? As long as our 'TEAM' does well. I think the things written about Sachin in Srinath's column adds more pressure on him. It seems whatever our team does is not important. It is more important for Sachin to score a '200' it seems!! Well being a cricketer himself he should know what pressure is all about. Come on Srinath we as spectators were not bothered about how you do on the field. We are more bothered about how our bowlers support each other when his partner fails. Everyone can have a bad series and Sachin's no execption. High time we stop adding pressure on that guy.

yeah, I am very much in consonance with u my friend..lets forget ab sachin or rahul or may be anybody..the thing is that everybody should contribute ...and if u ponder in detail u can easily find that everybody contributed in this "dream come true" ...and it should be like this....and I am very much happy to see how ganguly inspires his young men to tackle the aggresive and furious aussies....
