jumping the gun
by vinod narayan on Dec 11, 2003 06:44 PM

one test ended in a draw and suddenly we are talking about how our team has turned around. I am a true indian i hate it when we lose. but one test is not a indicator of a turn around. if we are consisntent like the australians great. lets look at the openers slot virender is certainly not a consistent performer as hayden or langer. akash is a newcomer to soon to wirte about him. in termsof bowling one good day in the field and 2 runouts helped us will that happen again we have to bowl consistently like Jason and Mcgraw on and around the offside making the batsmen play every ball and not give one loose ball after 5 good balls. Pathiv messed up a stuping chance that could have cost us dearly he has to firm up. All rounders we need. The spinners Harbajan the ways he bowls nowdays when u see his expression on taking a wicket u feels that he is saying what a fluke i got a wicket. Anil kumble 300 plus wickets great but how has it helped us abroad not much do we drop him from a side no after so many years he is still talking about proving himself abroad. move on.
win consistently and then we have made it.

High expectations from everyone for Indian team. We know our team very well. We can only show to fight out but never win against the mighty Australian Team. They are the World Number 1 team in both versions of game. Its just the begining don't count the chicken before hatched

Don't jump the gun!
by Muralidhar Rao on Dec 09, 2003 10:12 PM

Many Indian supporters are jumping the gun. It was really thrilling to see Ganguly save India in a test match. Ganguly is better known for his heroics in the one day affair. But too much should not be made of India's batting or bowling from just the first test. The Australians for the most part have creamed the Indian bowling to pulp except for the brief time when Ajit and Zaheer claimed 4 wickets for just 62 runs. Let us not forget that Damien Martyn and Gillespie were run out and Waugh's wicket was a bit of luck. In the 2nd innings, The Aussies massacred the Indian bowling attack. The match was rained out for over 2 days. But some of the Indian supporters like Srinath are behaving as if India whipped Australia. It was high time Ganguly saved India the blushes. Then what the hell is he captain for?(0k, he is the best Indian captain at present) So lets see what happens in the next three tests. Only if India puts up a good performance consistently then people like Srinath can talk the way they are talking. Otherwise critics of Ganguly had enough material to blame him (as well as the bowlers) for his underperformance in test matches for the last 5 years until the 144 in Brisbane.

no matter whats the outocome of this match, its a moral victory to team india. captain's knock was a superb effort towards reviving India's chances to perform outstandingly DOWNUNDER. i hope they will be consistant and will perform better than expected.

India's performance in the first test at Brisbane
by B Raju on Dec 09, 2003 04:41 PM

It is always the rule of the world - appreciate a good performance and criticize a bad one. Any cricket fan will agree that it was a criminal loss at Eden Gardens in the TVS Cup final. When a home team loses in front of its crowd at home , expecting optimism in performance that too in Australia where our record has been dismal ( barring the World Championship of Cricket in 1985 ) is beyond normal thinking of any human being. I am sure that the critics of Indian team will be happy if they are proved wrong.

Real Music to Aussies
by Achin on Dec 09, 2003 01:04 PM

A great performance by the indians at the Gabba saw the aussies suffer psychologically to the end.
A real morale booster for the indians, especially at the start of the series.Ganguly showed his way of clearing the dues of the aussies which were very much awaited from the back home indians. Ganguly should continue to play in this manner as to suit according to the situation demanding. One has to make changes a lot in his technique in playing other than usual conditions.
But it wasn't a good sign for the master-blaster in this match. All are saying about the Wrong decision given by the hi-fi profile umpire, but to be honest it wasn't you can hide away.Tendulkar always doesn't perform in the much crunched games and that too against aussies.
Bowlers were good and they performed upto their level. Zaheer Khan was exceptional and really bowled well. But Nehra ruled out his inclusion in the team. He didn't performed as expected and from my point of view, he shouldn't be there in the next match.

The critics must be eating their words now
by P P Chatufale on Dec 09, 2003 11:24 AM

Pls reserve your accolades for the Indian teams.Lets wait for second test. The indians are also known for squandering the advantage too often as far as cricket goes.
Also the best of Aussies bowlers have yet to play.
