To answer your question, Mr Kotian...
by Kovi on Dec 09, 2003 02:56 AM

...Yes, they can. It was not a surprise to read another of those doomsday conspiracy articles...somehow our media has perfected the art of attacking and demoralizing our own players before major tournaments. I guess posing the question if they can "stay at the crease" was quite convenient at that time. But we all have the answer now, dont we?

Just a quick question: Implying that our team CANNOT stay at the crease; is it a case of lies, damned lies, or just plain old statistics?

first Test : India Aus
by Ven Hari on Dec 07, 2003 02:11 AM

Today is the fourth day of the First Tect. My prediction:
Shewag will be out soon ( within 20 runs) caught in slips/ point/gully. Chopra will follow soon. Laxman Sachin and Dravid will take score to around 200. Ganguly gone to a rising ball outside off Rest will fall like king pins. Wish I am wrong. I strongly believe that it was a mistake to drop Ramesh. Shewag is good middle order in Tests not an opener.

India in Australia

Dear Sir,

Firstly, Why we Indians always start with negative thinking on any issues ?

If we look further back there were series where India fought back in Test series and runs were scored much more than what has been stated.

There are teams and players who have performed in Australia even against the present team. India do have some of the finest players of the world who have always performed under trying circumstances. In this series also we will see few such performances which will surely shut the critics who have persumed a complete white wash even without analysing the situation.

Qulity wise we are not lagging in capabilities but it is the phsycological reason which is becoming a bigger factor between India and Australia. Let us hope that our players do perform according to their merit and keep the Indian flag flying high under the guidance of Saurav Ganguly.

Subhajit Ghosh.

Tour Australia begins. All of a sudden there is so much noise in the media, especially Rediff, about how India will perform Down-Under. Relax guys. If you were to go purely by history and statistics, it would not be required for two teams to play against each other twice. "I defeated you in the first game, I will defeat you forever" doesn't work. Historical statistics should be used to analyse and improve performances and not for astrological predictions. Mr Kalicharan says "If they manage to come out of the tour with the score-line reading 2-0 in Australia's favour, they would have done well.". Come on, Kali, this is not the current West Indian team to settle happily for such results.
It is very important for each player in the Indian team to mark an individual of similar profilein the rival camp and try to match or outperform his counterpart in every single innings. When head-to head talent is compared, Indians sit comfortably ahead of the Aussies in both the departments (thanks to the absence of McGrath & Lee). Though the Indians will miss Warne. Fielding is a bit of concern. But if the boys gel together, they can pull it off. Columnist's beware, you are gonna be proven wrong.

yes india can stay at crease
play negative game, simple. if they wanna to score fast. dont allow them to do so. just frustate them by negative bowling, outside crease of course, wide length delivery.
they wanna to take ealry wicket, never allow them to do that. sachin and dravid can do that.
so what next its always never allow the rivals to play according their strength.
hoping this will work for india

Good points and stats. One statement of yours was

"The difference appears marginal; India in fact scored at a more rapid pace than the Aussies did. Yet, the host team won 4-0."

The reason for that is many times Aus declared innings, or on one occassion did not bat in second innings. Obviously if they batted till last man out, the difference in scores would not marginal.
