Coaching is different
by Anand on Dec 03, 2003 10:50 AM

I too feel for Kapil. He seems to be hurt thinking he is being overlooked. But coaching is different from being great as such. So instead of criticising he should either undergo some courses in coaching to understand the psychology behind it or just wish Indian team good luck.

Kapil is not correct!
by Ramdas S on Dec 02, 2003 08:56 PM

Kapil Dev is definitely the greatest cricketer produced from India. I respect him for that. But he was one of the worst coaches we had. He was a natuarally talented cricketer, but lacks the skills to manage and coach a team. It also requires you to be strategician, which he nor any of these Indian coaches lacks.

Indians prefer listening to White guy. The brown Sahib syndrome is still there!

Of the ex-cricketers perhaps Ravi Shastry and Gavaskar make good coaches. But I guess they are making more money on TV.

Foreign coaches have done well world over, so why cry ?
by S. Sridhar on Dec 02, 2003 06:07 PM

Foreign coaches world over have delivered better results than local ones. We should be glad we have our share in helping the Indian team grow.

Given the extent of favouritism and corruption, local coaches tend to get swayed or helpless. It is, hence, better that they stick to commentary.

Why could Kapil not deliver as a coach till such time he was a coach ? Can someone explain why Sandeep Patil was more successful with Kenya than his stint with the Indian Seniors team ?

Good Luck to the Indian team! Forget all these complaints, the fans are with you, go and win!!!!

but then the danger is the -can the greats resist the temptation of becoming prima donna's again and restrict their contribution to only coaching!

We don't need inhouse coaches
by cheez_m on Dec 01, 2003 10:30 PM

We should accept the reality, we need foreign coaches to coach indian bowlers. See how pathetic they are. Its not less bowling its becoming no bowling. Bruce Reid seems to be a good choice, someone who has achieved good success in fast tracks. Wasim would have been a better choice though. And why the heck Kapil is upset about? He should be busy in playing golf I guess!

Great Players do not necessarily make great Coaches
by Manoj on Dec 01, 2003 08:09 PM

I see no harm in having a foreign Coach. I don't care where they are from as long as they get the best out the players.
Great players do not necessarily make great Coaches as was evident when Kapil was the Coach for the Indian Team. You need a professional who knows what he is to be done and not someone who was good or even the best in the world in his prime. And why did Kapil not offer his services when the Indian Team was looking for a Bowling Coach???

Dont agree fully!
by Shyam on Dec 01, 2003 07:43 PM

I dont fully agree with the sarcastic comment from Kapil. Understandably it would hurt him for not getting the assignment being the great bowler himself but he must understand that Bruce Reid knows the conditions in his country much better than Kapil and has a great track record as a bowling coach. Formar greats haven't helped themselves by criticizing young team at the drop of hat either. One also needs to win confidence of young time to coach the, which I dont think all former greats does pocess - glorious example Bishan Bedi. And so much whining about John Wright but dont we see the difference he made to the team? And Kapil himself was once coach he probably knows results better. The thing about John is he will always be a 3rd person, an outsider, or whatever you call..and that will help in being shutting off the doors of partiality or regional pressure that we have seen in past. I am fully for Wright and Reid at the moment though in the future eventually would like someone Indian to take it over BUT for that they need to be trained, so far I dont think they are - as a coach.
