It is really unfortunate that Ramesh, the best of openers among the current lot with a good test record under trying circumstances, does not find a place in any of the teams. Obviously the selectors have considerations other than Cricketing ability, Mental toughness and Current form for selection to the Indian team.
We know that India has some of the best batsmen in the middle order to decimate any opposition. But it is imperative to have a very good opening combination. Despite knowing this for years, and with the various failed experiments in the recent past, the selectors still do not seem to have learnt their lessons. Ramesh and Shiv Sundar Das were talked about as the best combination that fits the bill till Ramesh (despite being in good form) was unceremoniously dumped and Das hit a low trough.
The BCCI should have at least tested this pair again in the Challenger series before the make a final decision on the opening combination. Oh! of course, the private hidden agenda of some selectors are more important than the welfare of Indian cricket.
