don't get too much influenced by 'nice talk'
by karthik on Aug 26, 2003 02:20 PM

Hi guys,

Please don't get over influenced by his 'nice talk'. Its just an interview.

Judge him by his comments on sledging. If his '12' players had so much love for their '1 million' supporters, why were some of them involved in match fixing ? Where did their patriotism and passion go at that time, huh ?

Look at us

Look at one of our cricketers, who is the richest one in his field and is on a look out to evade taxes which is his primary duty and not a charity.. we call him our GOD and look at Steve who isn't an Indian and yet works for the helpless here..

Take some lessons to improve your English Mr. Singh. Sachin was NOT attempting to EVADE Tax. He made a request for a "Tax Waiver" which is just an attempt to 'avoid' Tax. He is a public figure and hence has to face these type of criticism! People are happy to shoot from their hip thanks to the Courtesy of Rediff.

Sledging
by Sai on Aug 20, 2003 11:40 PM

What Steve Waugh states about sledging in his interview is utter crap. No one , atleast in the gentlemanly game of cricket, encourage each other through the despicable means of sledging, and to assert so emphatically that Australians donot indulge in sledging is simply illogical and ridiculous. The whole cricketing world is witness to the unprovoked outbursts of Glenn McGrath whenever he is packed off to the fence. True, McGrath is the finest of the current bowlers but that does not mean that he can behave in that manner. Sledging only indicates that the players donot have the right spirit of the game( in complete contrast to what steve says) and what about the best team, West Indies dominated the cricketing arena for decades and yet they epitomised the true spirit of cricket, calm and dignified and they still do it. The message to the Australians is very clear , play the game in the right spirit and if mutual encouragement is extremely necessary then let it not be at the expense of the other side. After all, it is a game of cricket

let him who has not sinned throw the stone first
by tom on Aug 20, 2003 09:29 PM

i dont think we have right to judge others. how do you know sachin and others are doing nothing.
How many of us indians have a mentality to do something for the society? volunteer or giving back to society is not a concept we indians have ingrained in us.

Steve is Uncomparable !!!
by Prasanna Viswakumar on Aug 20, 2003 06:59 PM

Be it on or off the field, one cannot find a
marvellous person like 'Steveda', as he is fondly
remembered by the children at the calcutta orphanage.
An ever-tough , hard, visionary and dynamic captain
and cricketer on the field and a soft-spoken,
charitable gentleman off the field. He is a
legend and his life is a lesson to many who wish
to learn. Steve deserves every bit of his success
and by his deeds and feats on and off the field, he
stands miles ahead of his contemporaries.

Wishing u all the best in all ur future endeavors
Steve !!!
