Laxman always deserves a place in test squad. His stylish strokeplay will allow him to come as 4th or 5th wicket batsmen and opening will be a jeopardy for his team and to his talent.
Laxman has failed as an opener. His only success was 167 in Australia besides a couple of other great innings. If Laxman wants to experiment once more as an opener then he must be feeling that his place lower down is in jeopardy or he feels he will run out of partners if he bats at #6. His place in the Indian team should be safe for the present as there is no one of stature to replace him. Players like Bangar,Gambhir,Rayudu,Badani,Sriram, Jaffer,Yuvraj and Kaif are not in the same league as Laxman. The only reason maybe Laxman does not want to wait till #6. The best place for Laxman is #5 and Ganguly should come at#6.
There is no doubt that is is one of the most talented test cricketer, but this also shows his flexiblity and maturity as a cricketer. But i personall feel he should come 1 down as jafer is a genuene opener & a natural strok maker + he is in good form.
