I agree with Mr. Daniels
by tapan on Aug 08, 2003 08:21 PM

Mr. Daniels has raised a point that is perfectly true. Fight if u have the guts dunt criticze the champions. Its true that there are no criticims that ne one else can find with the current Australian team and that is the reason they are comin up with the sledging issues. West Indians scared the hell out of batsman with their height and their fierce bowling. Australians scare the hell out of a batsman by sledging wats the big deal. true it should not be over done but dude face it cricket has changed.

I hope Sunil Gavaskar reads this article. The article is well written, and makes a point, possibly in a more aggressive manner than Sunny's address; but it does provide us with another point of view which is well taken.

Dear Mr. Daniel ''shakespearean'' Laidlaw
by karthik on Aug 08, 2003 12:22 PM

did you actually write "..acknowledgement of bump balls....sundy goodwill gestures.." or did my iris just deceive me?
Do you remember a certain Mr.Slater argue over a catch, with the umpire and also with the batsman during their last indian tour? and do you remember watching the replay that showed so very clearly that the ball bounced before he 'caught' it?
am assumin that you wud have played cricket at 'some point of time' in your life. then you wud know that the fielder will be the first person to know whether the ball bounced or not.
Before you brand me as a prejudiced patriot....lemme ask you something else...am sure u saw the sarwan - mcgrath episode on TV...dint you feel like puking at such a blatant, juvenile 'outrage'?
Do you even remember one Mr.D Fleming, whose antics were at a notorious display in sharjah sometime back? when i was seeing it, i was reminded of this friend i had in high school, who used to cry for 2 hrs if someone denied him a toffee...
I luv the australian team and their brand of cricket...probably more than even you do...but then, to actually call them a well behaved side is just too funny...its like sayin 'Mr.laidlaw is a great journalist"

Racism in Cricket

Daniel Laidlaw's column against Sunil Gavaskar is a good example of RACISM. I wonder if any white man had critisized sledging he would have faced such stiff opposition. Lilee and Marsh are opposing Gavaskar b'coz they once represented the side which at present are no.1 in sledging too. I m not sure abt Laidlaw's nationality (Usko mirchi kyun lag rahi hai). Any game will be best when played with good sportsmanship and sledging is not one of them. Winning at everycost is not the right attitude. There shud be self satisfaction after winning (or losing). I don't think writers read the comments on their articles otherwise they improve after each one of them.

Daniel's Sledge on Sunny
by Arvind Nandan on Aug 08, 2003 10:21 AM

Shame on you Daniel....for wasting so much time and space advocating something that is basically wrong!! I'm sure this senseless guy (hope he doesn't mind this address...as it is a natural reaction - a la sledging -not foul language!!) has many things to say in favor of sledging, doping (again an Australian has a certified record for this), etc. since the unethical champs did'nt invent it - they are just using it 'to win'. Get back to senses and stop preaching wrong things!! Your champs don't fight with players only - they even argue with umpires...remember India experience? And they look helpless chickens when the ball turns - which Lloyd's team did'nt. Don't compare them to all time greats - AND Don't make the mistake of assuming that someday Gilchrists & Haydens will have the same repute as Sunny...go back to your schools and learn a bit of basic behaviour!!

sledging

i think that Australians should take this criticism in a constructive / productive way and improve on it. This will ensure that they being Champions are also a liked lot world-over. Currently, although they are the champions, they also exhibit a negative force by the way the sledge. And all said and done, cricket is supposed to be a Gentleman's game. The reason Tendulkar is respected world over is because of his talent as well as his humility. The Australians are certainly appreciated for their talent, but not respected fortheir sportsmanship. Only Steve Waugh commands respect for his sportsmanship and maturiy in the Aussies. I think they should take this criticism as right and improve upon it to be respected for their cricket and behaviour, both.
