Was Lillee a mediocore?
by Indrajit Chaudhury on Jul 20, 2013 04:13 PM

Ok Lillie can rate vishy over sunny (even sunny rated vishy above him)BUT it is astonishing
he rated sunny as a mediocre. A player who has scored above 10000
runs and 34 centuries against all countries (home and abroad)against
all kinds of bowling and wickets he was undoubtedly a great batsman.
On the contrary I think dennis can be termed as a mediocre because
he always fail miserably in the subcontinent wickets where there is no pace
and bounce (e.g tour of Pakistan)He never came to India because there is no PERTH.
I think Lillie's greatness must be scrutinized carefully.
He is nowhere near the west indies quicks who all have always
bowled ferociously against the subcontinent teams where the pitches
are usually not conducive to pace and bounce.
Sunil have scored 3 centuries against Jeff in 1977 in Australia.
He has played only 3 tests against dennis and if the nasty decision
have not gone against him he was going to score a big century.
I am sure dennis will fail with if he came to India.
I can't remember whether Glen Mcgrath (i rate him better than Lillie)
has ever won a match against us with his fiery spell.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Lillee is making controversial comments about Indian players at the same time as releasing his autobiography. India is probably the biggest market for cricket books!

The Australian's opinions are always biased.
While there is no doubt about the quality of Vishwanath it has been extremely difficult for any Indian batsman to surpass the class, consisteny and dedication of Sunil Gavaskar.
Gavaskar remains the genius of all times.

lillee'rating of Gavaskar
by Sankar krishna on Aug 02, 2003 06:57 PM

I agree with LIleee's rating of Vishwanath as a better batsman compared to Gavaskar. Vish scored runs faster ,under difficult conditions and contributed to producing results.
In Judging quality of batting, all these factors have to be considered and not runs alone.
