Steve is the best
by dr Virender on Aug 02, 2003 12:24 AM

Steve was a guy to look upto in pressure & he delivered without fail evertime. the best part is he would challenge the opponent & deliver goods & make them pay for smallest of mistake. who can forget his words to gibbs "boy u ve just dropped the world cup".
a dropped catch of kenny benjamin in the carribean saw him post a double century. so its always "when in trouble call for steve"

Indian players have obviously got to learn a lot from players like Steve Waugh, who though he did not possess the talent of a Sachin Tendulkar, played well within his limits and surpassed the very best batsmen. Obviously his attitude, strength of will and committment to the game was the reason for his success.

India is full of talented players, who are any day more talented and interesting to watch than Steve Waugh. But how many of them can lay claim to the same amount of committment as Steve.

Therein lies a lesson to be learned by our younger players be it Kaif, or Yuvaraj or Virender Sehwag, as their performance in English County cricket recently would suggest.

Steve Waugh, definitely a star performer in this generation and one of the bests of all time.He may be ranked next to Sachin & Lara among the contemporary batsmen. But Marsh's comment on him that he's the second best batsman Aus. has produced is not true if U analyze properly. There were some other greats in the immediate past itself.Greg Chappell,Dean Jones & David Boon, etc are all greater than Waugh. He can be ranked along with them inl. Border & his twin brother Mark.
But if we consider the entire world, definitely Sachin is the most supreme batsman in the world, cricket has ever produced. He may be ranked along with Don only.Next to Don & Sachin, Viv. richards,Sunny Gavaskar & Gary Sobers may be ranked.Next to them,Lara,Miandad,Waugh brothers,Dean Jones,Greg Chappell,Vishy,Martin Crowe,DeSilva and others may be ranked.

i donot agree with marsh.......... waugh is great player but he is with a bunch of them..... Don was greatest in his era when one day internationals were never played. As one day were introduced the batsmen were forced to change their batting style and adaption to the game, the pressure increasd and so on.

so the cricket should be divided in two eras post one days & after introduction of one days.

Coming to Mr.logesh hari krishna's mail.. i feel wat he said in his mail was 110% true.. i believe there are only two batsmen to whom the whole cricket galaxy should look upto-- both of them belonged to different eras... 1 being Don Bradman (post oneday era) 1 being Sachin (present era)

i have read in a sports magazine in australia in year 2001.....there it has been described about Sachin in all superlatives but one surely stands out........IF CRICKET IS A RELIGION THEN SACHIN IS A GOD.

Allan Border, David Boon, steve Waugh, Dean jones & Mark waugh belong to same category and i believe allan border & dean jones were better when compared to Steve..But with all due respects to Steve Waugh, i presume he was a better cricketer and not batsman in comparison to the mentioned names.
