ENGLISH CRICKET WAS AT ITS WORST FOR MUCH OF THE PAST YEAR
by Pratheesh K on May 03, 2003 12:34 AM

Pro-English WIsden is Bible of English psychology.
The entire article reflects only wisdens unhappiness and vengeance on England not being awarded a match in south africa for the zimbabwe tie.
Its good in one way.....coz only a couple of such narrow minded and hollow articles can wake us all to the fact that wisden isnt or any more the Bible of Cricket but just a piece of English phychology.....its the inside out view from an English point of view.....and for them, cricket literally goes unnoticed after England is out of contention......and since Australia has been dominating cricket in the last year....its not a surprise that they had the worst year of cricket....the article should be renamed..ENGLISH CRICKET WAS AT ITS WORST FOR MUCH OF THE PAST YEAR

ICC-High headedness

What Wisden is doing now India has been doing it in the past and not getting any support from the other members, now is the time to see how many of those hipocrates will come forward and support what wisden is saying.....i am sure they dont have the guts to stand up against the ICC, its only the BCCI and Indian players who can fight for their causes.

Let me make one thing very clear to ICC and other countries(cricketing)that dont ingnore India, because no one comes to see your players not een in your countries but they fill the ground when Indian are there...... So no India No Money in Cricket

These who practised colonialism as a state policy are preaching human rights. It is such a shame that these very people never uttered a murmur against the aparthied regime of the white Botha in South Africa.after all who is concerned of the wisden's "cry baby" ? Mr. Speed must be congraulated the way the world cup was conducted.A few English business men loosing a few mines in a past colony hardly deserves a second glance.

My response

When I began to read the piece -- the Wisden flays ICC -- I found the comments initially as very apt and nothing but natural from the Bible of Cricket. But, my pleasure proved to be only momentary as I went diggging deep into the article.
In deed the piece comes as a mixed bag if all the facts and logic were to matter. Sure, the ICC needs to be castigated for its managing cricketing affairs. But, this one comment from the editor of the Wisden, I found to be in a very bad taste.
The editor's words and comments only imply that Malcom Speed was insensitive to the human rights abuse in Zimbabwe and hence he crossed the great moral line. And the Australian captain Ricky Ponting was also implicated as one who simply shrugged off the moment of truth. The author should not ignore the fact that what brought 'a-few-more-than-a-hundred' cricketers to South Africa and Zimbabwe was only cricket and not the murky politics that already wrought havoc on the Mideast.
The game suffered enough humiliation when Britain played the nasty pick-n-choose game. And I appreciate Ponting for salvaging some pride. The 'Bible' too also appears to redefine the 'line of MORALITY,' as one drawn by Britain n Co.

Wisden ! Ha Ha Ha
by pradeep on Apr 30, 2003 11:36 PM

When wisden says something, its ridiculous. People must get the point when someone like Adam Hollioake (Ha Ha Ha) who never played international cricket in the recent past has been named in "5 cricketers of the year" What a shame that is to cricket. leave the ICC out. What a shame wisden is bringing to cricket!!!

Is it the 5 worst players of the year? Something must be wrong in that. Oh my god. Adam Hollioake. Ha Ha Ha !!!!

Please understand that all these english cricket / sports companies are for england alone.

I cannot understand why we give importance to Wisden and even call it 'bible' of cricket. Its just an English magazine with an English agenda. When we say 'Wisden said...', its just some individual who is expressing his opinion. In this case and for the past many years Wisden has lost its credibility. The Indian players too feel that we should not give any significance to it or print what it says. It is non-consequential.

all i can say is wisden is pro england.
when all the teams could play in zim without any interruption then why not england? even when ICC guaranteed the security.
wisden is supporting Andy Flower and Henry Olonga just because they opposed zimbabwe govt.
...Harish
