australia is on a roll and their victory was a foregone conclusion after the end of day four.lara played a solid innings but he was isolated at one end.this australian team have literally no opposition at all.a combined team of india and pakistan should pose a strong challenge to this mighty squad.we shouldnt be stingy in showering praise on them.

I think the present Australian cricket team can be beaten only by Sourav Ganguly's team in Austrialia later this year.Come on India.

Lara's century for the team cause ...haah..!!
by Sachin Fan on Apr 24, 2003 01:39 PM  | Hide replies

And there was this great deluge of people who were predicting a Lara lead victory ha ha ha...!
People never learn do they. Can Sachin critics tell me how this century by Lara has helped the team cause. It has only added another feather to his collection. But just imagine how the world would have come down on poor Sachin if he had done the same."he became irresponsible after reaching his century..he doesnt win matches for India...his greatness is only in statistics..etc etc". It would do a world of good to realize that the whole team of Sachin haters remember only Sachin's failures and for all other batsmen remember only their success.
Whoever said it was easy being a Tendulkar !

well, atleast Lara tried - quite unlike our hero - who got out cheaply in the WC finals, and then had the gall to blame the bowlers - be a man and admit you did badly. if the bowlers are to do everything, why even have batsmen in the team?

Sachin Vs. L ara RE:Lara's century for the team cause ...haah..!!

Thats far from the truth. In fact most of the times, sachin gets over rated, and over appreciated.
As for this innings of Lara, ok he might not have been able to carry WI to victory this time, biut he certainly did under more difficult situations when Australia toured WI last time. About, what would have happened if it was Sachin playing this innings with the same result, he would also have been appreciated well for it. Because if you remember, against Pakistan in Chennai, he met a similar fate, and that innings is still recognized as his best innings, even though India lost (and even though, it was Sachin's wicket which triggered the downfall, unlike in Lara's case where he lost his wicket only after seeing 3 go out in quick succession).
So come on, you should be old and mature enough to face it, Sachin is "by far the BEST" batsman in the world, but when it comes to batting under extreme pressure, against quality opposition, guys like Steve Waugh and Brian Lara are way ahead!!!

hi,
i dont know if u have seen or followed the match. wi were doing very well till lunch and after lunch bichel took 3 quick wickets. seeing his 3 good batsmen gone so quickly, lara had to change his approach and he started shielding the tail enders by taking singl off 4th or 5th balls of each over- this he did for 2-3 overs. in mcgills over also, that ball was wide and should have promptly despatched for 4 (pre lucnh time, this would have been the case), but lara wanted to take single and so tried to steer to 3rd man where hayden took a very good diving catch at slip.
anyway u r right that this century didnt help team cause, but it was one made in 4th inngs and atleast he fought till 7 wicks were down at other end it looked that wi had outside chance till lara was there- such is the effect of LARA. also if u see the final scorecard, its only lara who put up any reasonable fight in wi total. in any case 407 is too much to ask for and its almost impossible to score by a single person.
btw, i dont think we can compare lara and tendulkar in test cricket. lara is way ahead of sachin. yea, in one dayers, there can definitely be a debate.

can this team be beaten at all?
by amarnath rao on Apr 24, 2003 11:03 AM  | Hide replies

The plain truthful answer is no, not today atleast. The only way they can be beaten is to form a world eleven and give the captaincy to Nasser Hussain, because he was the only one who came close to beating them in either form of the game. With so many retiring from the game after the world cup, it is difficult to form a team to beat them . but some of these can be considered.Gary Kirsten,Jack Kallis,Pollock,Sachin,Dravid,Andy Flower,Shoab Akthar,Wasim Akram,Mark Boucher(W.K.),Nasser Hussain(c),Harbhajan Singh. and Jounty Rhodes 12th man.
