Current Australian team is no doubt is a great side. However, to compare them with Clive Lloyd's or Viv Richard's West Indies is injustice to the ability of those sides. Winning is not the only criteria for a side to be great, the way of winning is. The West Indies in that era no doubt had hammered all the sides. But the fact that no batsman or bowler had dominated them, no doubt, Sunil Gavaskar had scored a lots of runs against them, however, no batsman had dominated over their attack, the way the current Aussies are domiated by the batsmenship of V.V.S.Laxman and Brian Lara and bowlings of Harbhajan Singh, Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq etc. Conclusion is that they are great but not as great the old Windies were.
Comparison with Lloyds team is on the assumption that great West Indies team has set the benchmark. Now the current Australian team has erased the previous bench marks and have set their own.It is the greatest.See how many times they have crossed 400 runs with alarming regularity in the last 20 tests. On the contrary Clive Lloyd had to come to the rescue of his team dropping the anchor.More than the batting of its stalwarts it is the destructive pace of the WI team which saw them through on a number of occassions. They frightend the opposition into subission. On the contrary current Astralian team has an efficient pack of bowlers who are able to ride their batters spendid displays. What really puts the current Australian team above the great WI team is the presence of Adam Gilchtist who is a batter wicketkeeper par excellnce. The present Australian team is the greatest.Debate is over. swarup
West-Indies minus Brain Lara is down to nearly zero. Aussies going from strength to strength. No force on the earth can stop the Aussies. Congratulations to Aussies.
how to set field for the likes of gilchrist who just winks the ball to boundary.the fact is that aussie batsmen might be contained only by some genuine pace bowling and adept fielding which only New zealand seem to possess.but if their batsmen fail bowlers are fired up.There by stopping aussies is a tough job.
Brian Lara is certainly better tah sachin as lara has the instinct of delivering at very crucial times and against strong opponents. He did the same against Muralidharan in Sri Lanka.Sachin never plays a big innings out of india and against strong teams like Australia, although he gives them a good beating at home.
