Ganguly

Dear Observer,

Please shut your ugly mouth before calling the GREAT crybaby. First of all it's Saurav who's crying all the time, since after inclusion of Sehwag and some breathtaking opening partnerships between him and Sachin prompted everyone to want them opening Indian innings. It's that Saurav who under the sweet caption of team interests put Sachin down the order. Is it not politics? Don't be regionalistic, if really want to be, then gulp this bitter truth down if you can ..... it's only because of Dalmiya, a Calcuttan that he's still hanging otherwise such an arrogant individual would have been swiftly discarded ... that's what happened to him when he had to make his debut in 1996 when he easily could have made it in 1992.

Ganguly opting out of the Match on Wed
by Linu Varghese on Apr 15, 2003 06:35 PM

There is no problem in giving Sehwag the responsibility of the captaincy as it would help in grooming the young sehwag... and increasing the confidence and also it is good to try out new players always, but not on the cost of the cup..!!!

Ganguly - the selfless and greatest captain...
by Ramanathan on Apr 15, 2003 11:54 AM  | Hide replies

Ganguly is certainly the selfless and greatest captain India has ever produced. Look at the way he is dealing with the younger boys. He is giving an extended session and he is not simply throwing them out just seeing them only for a couple of matches. He himself knows the pain a player has to undergo if he is thrown out after just one or two matches (He himself was thrown out after given just one match in 1991). He understands the players mind better than any of us.
Our colonial days are so imprignated in our mind, that whatever steve waugh does, we call it great and when Ganguly does something, we call it stupid. Ganguly has
contributed so much in building Indian cricket and he certainly deserves praise. Even his decision of bringing Tendulakar to no. 4 was taken to strengthen the middle order and not for his personal sake though I beleive that he is a good enough player to open and score against any attack (not only against weak attackes as some people claim). Let us have the courage to see things as they are and praise Ganguly for what he has done to Indian cricket unlike most of his predecessors.

mongia is in the team because the present team management (coach, capatain, seniors) believe in giving the juniors an extended run especially if they feel that he can come good. That is why we don't see talented youngsters being dropped after one or two failures.if that had been the case the likes of Yuvraj,Kaif, sehwag who all perofrmed miserably for a long time at the beginning of their careers would not have been playing for India.Ganguly is ensuring that what happenned to him in '92 -- dropped for 4 yrs after 1 match -- doesn't happen to any promising youngster. Not everybody is Sachin who can take the pressures of international cricket from match one. They have to be nurtured and encouraged.

Ganguly Sitting Out
by Shrikant on Apr 14, 2003 10:28 PM

It was funny reading all reactions. From my perception, the following issues need to be taken into account -

1. Ganguly also wanted to sit out of the tournament but the Board refused his request. I don't agree with the board. Sourav should have had his rest too. May be he was too late in raising his hand. Rahul and Sachin beat him at that.

2. How does Sachin picture in this conversation? May be when one puts his name in, it is easy to get readers, that's why.

3. Some ' Sunshine ' calls Sachin a spoilt brat. That made my day as that the best joke I have read in years.

4. Are any of these writers aware of the situation in terms of Match Fixing when Sachin was captain? How many match fixers has Sourav got in his team? Not that I want him to have any, but I believe that one has to compare similar situations. There is nothing similar between the Match Fixing era and now. I am happy for Sourav that he does not have to deal with that part of cricket.

I for one will be more happy to see Sachin and Sourav bat together as openers. That was the most lethal combination and we should go back to it. Every bowler in the world hates bowling to one right hander and one left hander. On top of it, Sourav bats over the fielders' heads and Sachin pierces the fielders. Both are very good running between the wickets. Both have Rahul and now Sehawag to back up whenever necessary. And if that is not enough, we have Kaif as well. Aslo, having both of them out together, puts additional pressure on bowlers. They try harder and make mistakes. Sourav or Sachin do not need further invitation. May be I haven't looked at every angle, but I fail to understand as to why they should not be out together to open the innings.

Well we should have rested Ganguly much before and let Sehwag lead. The team has been touring since last year, They need a break,
Better if India A had gone for this useless tournament

it's a good enough decision , because its under his captaincy that "team india" has been doing so well lately. therefore u do not want "captain courageous" to be suffering a grave injury. he's done well with the young boys. & then, atleast he is not sitting out of the tournament like some other senior cricketers. i think ganguly has shown great commitment by playong in this triseries. keep that up "maharaj"!
