It would be a foolish decision if BCCI removes any one of them. We must give them their job stability and then only expect better results.

Well done, John
by Vinay on Apr 09, 2003 02:36 PM

i think its hight time we drop excess baggage like kapil dev and vengsarkar from the decision-making process. john wright has literally sculpted this team from tatters that were handed to him by his "worthy" predecessors. he should be given a long-term contract along with leipus and le roux. it is this combination that is producing results. the support that they enjoy from the captain and team shows how well Team India gels with this support team. so instead of dancing to the whims and fancies of these frustrated former indian cricketers, the board should go for what augers well for Team India.

John today, has become the jaan of the new found indian team spirit. As one of the other mails said indian approach to the overall game per say is too narrow and lack focus. we DO NOT have, the killer instinct or the fire within to go the extra mile, and a profesiional approach to many things. We generally take a personal angle to all problems. Its a bane to all indians. So vengy should just shut up. Jaggy should continue to eat away what ever the board is earning and let the game continue in right earnest.

Keep Mr. (W)Right
by Arvind Nayak on Apr 09, 2003 06:30 AM

I believe that John Wright has done an exceptional job in forging the Indian team as a Unit. It is very import that India retains him specially ahead a tough tour of Australia coming in a few months.

I had the chance to watch & observe the Indian team closely during their last tour of Australia. The team under Kapil did not work to any plan. Their practice sessions were very ordinary. They lacked the spark.

Keep the 'Swadeshi's' away for this job atleast. Mr. (W)Right will be snapped up elsewhere if India choose to losse him.

Wright is the Right Person

When on earth are the ex-cricketers going to stop making loose comments and give credit to a person who has done so much for the Indian cricket. Gaikwad, Kapil and others should just shut up as they when given an opportunity they could do nothing but enjoyed their holidays. What change they brought to the indian team when they were in charge ?
Better shut your mouth and let the best things happen to indian cricket.

Be Indian, undermine Indians

Excellent article. As usual, rediff brings out excellent article, and always in support of and in the best interests of the team.

Regarding the comments by Kapil, Vengsarkar etc., what more do you expect? I might be out of line in saying this but this is typical desi mentality. Always try to pull the successful guy down. As someone rightly pointed out, isn't there any way to oust Dalmia? I think if there's any threat to Indian cricket, its from within and from Dalmia and his machinations.

Doesn't it shame these former greats to plain simply lie in public? Its a blatant lie that John hasn't performed, that he doesn't know what's happening in Ranji cricket, that he is being paid more than the Indian coaches. Yet these people go on record saying things like this. Its pathetic.

I think John Wright should be retained coach at least till WC2007, given full 4 year contract (not two years and then extend two more). Same should be for the Andrew and Adrian. Not to forget the captain and what we can call a 'core team'. Tell the guys that they'll be around for a long, long time to come.
