Pity on Kapil
by utpal on Apr 16, 2003 11:37 AM

Kapil maybe the greatest allrounder for that matter but was never a great captain or coach. The only noteworthy Title he has to his credit as a captain was the WOrld Cup . No doubt that he is one of the greatest players we have ever produced but he was never a good leader nor a strategist and of late a very bad and boring commentator. He is best at expert advice to bowling and to some extent fielding. Why does he have to say that Indian Coaches can do better than wright. Does he wants to be the Indian Coach?. or wants to promote Sandeep Patil . If thats is so than Sandeep Patil does not needs his marketing. he can do on its own.But how far he will be successful with ou team is a big question mark coz India is not Kenya. Tell me any single Indian coach who was instrumental in generating the kind team spirit we have now,the kind aggressiveness we have now and the kind of positive attitude we have now . Was their any Indian coach who has been able to make the Team more fitter than it is now .Even Gavaskar is not fit to be the Coach of Indian Team coz he has a big attitude problem. He can never be as friendly and down to earth like Wright. If i m right then wright is a person with an open attitude and a good listner and understands the players much better. Thats the reason why every player of the present Indian team loves him and wants him to be their coach . Regarding Bishen Singh Bedi ha! ha! huh! the worst person who can be a coach worth the mention.A person who doesnt have proper coordinaton between his mind and mouth what best can u expect of him. Ganguly by not commenting on Bedi's comments has slapped him on his face and that was the right thing to do to a person like him . He criticizes almost everybody. so nobody sud give a thought to any of his comments.
I hope Mr. Jagmohan Dalmia sud understand this and not rake the boat which is saling smoothly and successfuly.

I read that John Wright was not even paid for
a few months. Moreover he gets paid less than
what Kapil Dev was getting 4 years ago.
Shame on BCCI shame on Kapil,Vengsarkar,
Patil and other Indian "coaches".
Keeping Wright in suspense after the
World cup was in very bad taste. He is a true
sport - never complained publicly.
Has the board rewarded him for his world cup
performance yet ?

Wright is right
by Ashish on Apr 15, 2003 04:12 PM

All those three have done a gr8 job. This is just bcoz of few jealous ex-coaches and ex-players who have not been able to do much and now cannot gulp down the fact that Wright is much ahead of them.

Cricket Coach

Sir,

John wright is a very good coach with no baggage of state cricket boards and like. He will bring results and is interested in winning matches since he will only be retained if he wins matches and support of the team.

The other available talent like Patil and others have also coached outside their home land and would have been in demand for some team or the other if they are so talented and good for a National team coaching position.

However, lets have a Indian head for NCA, as Indian culture should not be thrown out in our fascination for modern foriegn coaches.

We can also train our coaches to be the best by having a rating system and training modules.

The piece on Wright was fantastic. Kapil & Gaikwad were two of th worst coaches Indian team ever had. Wright is the right choice & Ganguly is a good Captain.

the dreaded INDIAN psyche...
by chanakya on Apr 10, 2003 02:10 PM

These fellas who feel bad abt having a foreign coach for the Indian team will have a similar set of things to say abt any other Indian coach who may take office in future. so,jus give it a damn and let the man continue his good work..dont keep him guessing by giving these extensions in 2 month instalments..let him go abt his job in peace..as long its good for the team,u big guys at BCCI don have a problem with the money ,do u ???

Make no mistake about it.. John Wright, Andrew Leipus and Le Roux are the key elements in the Indian team's present performance. They have been able to harness the individual brilliance of the players and get them to perform as a TEAM..
The Indian players of yesteryears were great players in their own right but they still did not play as a TEAM...
A GREAT PLAYER NEED NOT NECESSARILY BE A GREAT COACH...

and testimony to that is "Who coached Kapil, Sachin in their formative years???"
