Dalmiah! Let the players play not you !!!
by Ram on Apr 28, 2003 05:31 PM

The best thing that happened for Indian cricket is John Wright. Atleast he has done his best to keep the Indian cricket. If Kapil & Dilip can't do any good for Indian cricket they can atleast shut their mouth up. Bringing up the crisis is Master Brained by Dalmiah and these 2 greats have just become the mouth piece of him. Jagmohan can plan to appoint special coaches to each of the state in India to find posts for his near and dear.

How can you just think of removing a guy who has enabled the Indian team to fire all guns. Now Indian Team is in good shape and there is no need to stir the clean pool to make it stink.

I would say we can have John for the next 2 years atleast as a coach. And keep Kapils and Dilips as coaches of their own states first let their capabilities prove there.

Dalmiah is the worst thing that can happen to Indian Cricket. He is a man who has split tongue and who always plays double games. :)

john wright is the best coach we have
by aditya singh on Apr 26, 2003 12:13 PM

i find it quite amusing that the likes of kapil dev, find john wright not fit for leading the team, when no indian coach could ever bring about such transformation, john wright has captured all the individual talents and contributed in them working as a team, even in 1999 wc, we had lot of hundreds from indians but they were not clicking as a team, now someone or the other keeps contributing be it laxman and harbhajan in the aus test. yuvraj and kaif in england. nehra and zaheer in england. the advent of sehwag as opener. dravid in the eng test. i rest my case. we should judge people by results not comments.

John Wright...

Pls give some credit to the intelligence of our existing cricket team members. Apart from the obvious improvement in the team's game and spirit, the team should play a larger part in deciding which coach suits them most. This cannot be decided by cricket players of yester-years who may have been entertaining players but not "effective" coaches. If JWright has raised the benchmark of our team's performance to a considerable level, let me continue with his job. After all what is best for the country should be followed and not for individual interests.

Wright the best Indian coach
by G.Ramkumar on Apr 22, 2003 11:49 AM

John Wright's appointment as coach of the Indian team has seen the side scale new heights. He blends very well with Sourav Ganguly and the other team members. He has brought about a much needed proffesionalism to the side.Such rubbish talks by the former players will in no way degrade his contribution to Indian cricket.

Arguing a Conclusion
by N.PARTHASARATHY on Apr 22, 2003 11:14 AM

The bulk of the messages are in great support of the article. This will always be true if you reach a conclusion - that Wright has done no wrong - and then argue it as Mr.Faisal has done. The four test wins - I do not what they are actually - should be analysed and seen whether they are against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe (both teams have their tail starting at No. 1) and England (tail starts from No. 4. In fact, I guess the Ganguly era is particularly noteworthy for beating Kenya, Bangladesh, Holland, Zimbabwe, Canada, England and West Indies (in India with doctored wickets), the last two for Test matches also.

Against a set team, there is not much that a coach can do. As grown ups, they have to go out and do their job.

A coach is useful only for juniors and not for those who have played so much of international cricket already. The same John Wright just could not do anything about the Indian team when they were beaten black and blue a few months ago in New Zealand under conditions which he should know like the back of his palm. Which essentially proves that results are the outcome of players' actions on the field and under pressure and have less to do with caoch's guidance. In fact, Wright himself had acknowledged midway through the NZ series "what can I do if the players just don't stay there in the middle?".

If Mr.Faisal had argued that Wright is useless and therefore should be replaced with Kapil Dev and brought in arguments of class as a player and ability to play under pressure, the very same anti - Kapil crowd would have turned anti - Wright. And that is the power of arguing a conclusion.
