India winning Nehru Cup is no big deal. We have been winning it for last 2 years. The real test will come when we will play Olympic Qualifiers, WC Qualifiers, Asian Games participation. These should be our challenges and not beating the likes of Camerron U23, Nepal , Maldives and other irrelevant teams.

Football- India on WordMap

The corporates support can go a long way in establishing India as a reckoning country in world cup football. I hope Asian giants like china, japan, qatar, saudi, iraq, malaysia, thailand can simultaneously start Premier league and help footballers from other asian countries to play in their league matches and broadcast them on live. You will see the difference.

This is Cameroon Under 23 Team
by vineet alagh on Sep 05, 2012 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

Just to clarify, this is the Cameroon Under 23 team with no player making a single senior appearance in the Cameroon Football team as yet. The team with players like Samuel Eto is playing in African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
Indian team and rediff should get their facts right before reporting.

India Sports ???

have you ever hear about the TAX amount of any sports person(Except cricketer) in our country?

have u ever calculate the earning yearly money of an criketer and anyother sports person.
In Criket : 1 day match (4 lacs/match) T20(2 lacs) Test(7 lac/match) Due to Contract (25 lac to 1 crore per year) IPL Advertisement
Football : 1.3 to 1.5 crore(highest) maximum below 1 crore.[Just For information Chhetri start with 2.5 lac per year 2002]
Hockey : same. After wining the Asian Champions Hockey Trophy, Award 2,50,000 for the whole team.
...

Proper infrastructure not for any other sports except criket.

family Support : Beta Criketer banna chata hai.. Bahut accha.. if not Criketer then there are no any future .

Media : All time highlights the Criket more then anyother sports. for example - Pullela Gopichand won the
2001 All England Open Badminton Championships, but unfortunately did not get the limelight because at the same time India vs Austrila 3 test in Kolkata.

I am not against Criket but really want from heart that India take the partcipate in various sports. After all india is the second largest population country.

can make India fight for an entry into the next world cup. By playing more tournaments abroad we get to know other teams and their players.

11 players from a billion represent india in football, similarly in cricket and other sports.
U could not qualify since u r not fit for it.So they represent u.So u have no choice to support them even with their shortcoming, like we support our army even though they may not be as good as some other army.
got it.

cAMEROON SEND THEIR UNDER 19 TEAM...A FACT COMPLETELY IGNORED by the media and IFA.

Cameroon did not even send their B team, but their sub-junior players for a free tour, where the cost was borne by IFA(actually Indian tax payers)..

India's has lost to B'desh,Bhutan and sometimes to even P'stan in the last few years.

Our ranking is not an accident.

I am not disrespecting Indian footballers, because I am not a player, and can never equal the Indian footballers.
But India's ranking is well deserved !!

From where you have got the info that Cameroon had sent their U-19 team? Either you don't know what football is or, you are biased to sports other than cricket. Camerron had actually send their U-23 team which played in the Olympic qualifier. FIFA ranking is based on the number of matches played on FIFA stipulated dates and/or FIFA approved tournamnets. So stop laughing, or rest of the world will laugh at your ignorance.
Coming to India's ranking it is not exactly reflect their current form, but had India played regularly we should be somewhere close to 130. Remember when India played in the Asia Cup in 2011, our ranking was 132.

So, Indian players can only win on non-fifa dates and non-fifa approved tournaments. Is that it?
Every footer fan knows that Indian team doesn't play well overseas. It is also known that the same team becomes cub-tigers in India with crowd support. They should start winning more overseas fifa-approved tournaments. Once they do that, popularity will be taken care by the press.
Also, U-23 teams are notoriously weak and don't reflect the actual national team.
