Pressure due to over ambitous expectations
by Manoj Adwani on Aug 02, 2012 12:01 AM  | Hide replies

Like Deepika kumari falling well short of her personal best and crashing out in the preliminary rounds, it has been the same story from the Olymics who were and capable of doing. We should always remember that Deepika kumari is just 18 yrs old and this is her first Olympics and the pressure and nerves got to her

I am absolutely unable to understand if you are World No. 1 players, how can you go down so tamely in opening round of Olympics. Is it weather, inexperience, nerves, or what? You should have something to show for to be world's best player. The way India played against The Neteherlands in men's Hockey was creditable; there was so shame in that defeat because India showed enogh fighting spirit. But when something this tame happens to our top-ranked players, it's dishearting.

Lionel Messi the FIFA world footballer of the year for 2 yrs gets the award because he scores goals for his club Barcelona. He hardly scores for his country, Argentina did not even go beyond the quarters in the last World Cup with Messi playing, Argentina even failed to reach the finals of the last Copa America games under Messi and yet we all love Messi. But we are happy in criticizing an 18 yr old for failure due to lack of experience in the Olympics. These double standards show that we are a country of hypocrites

Indians are a very weak race,80% being vegetarians,no match for others so stop expecting medal winning performance from them.

vegeterianism is a curse for India. it makes for weaklings, both in body and mind. And we are lazy so we dont build the bodies like we should.

Dont blame vegitarianism , Deepika Kumari or Jwala or Mahesh , Bopanna or Leander are not vegitarians anyway.

Prem Singh Degra who made us proud in Body building was vegitarian so it has very little to do with diet.

Problem is that too few people opt for sports in India.
I have seen in Korea and Japan that every locality has a park and there are exercise equipments kept and used by around 80% or population.
Compare this to India only .0001% indulge in sports of any kind.

wind did not affect archers from other countries
by sangeetha on Aug 01, 2012 10:50 PM  | Hide replies

Athletes from different countries particiapted and won. Only Indians were affected by wind!! Archery is not a sport where winning can be guaranteed and many great players dont do well all the time. It's ok if she didnt win, but these explanations are ridicuous. She is only 18 and have only 3 years experience in the sport, so mistakes can happen. But the coach should have taken care that she could acclimatise with the climate. It is their job to arrange practice in London.

no point in blaming....
by Mahendra on Aug 01, 2012 10:05 PM  | Hide replies

its useless to blame our players.
Firstly when they took aim there was lot of wind due to which the arrows could not land on target.

Secondly some of them said they could not acclimatise to the cold weather, due to which their hands had turned blue and they could not hold the equipment properly.

Thirdly there was lot of competition. Many archers were consistently hitting the bulls eye due to which they could not concentrate.

and finally it was their first olympics, so they should be given another chance.

Hope in Rio they manage to go to the round of 16.

Archery team

Women's archery team should be asked to return home in the next flight. The rest of the folks are at least taking it seriously and fighting. Results are not the most important thing, but attitude is! And if these folks remain with others, it can have its negative impact.

I think we are trying to misunderstand her smile during both the team and individuals. I can assure you that behind that exterior smiles it was an expression of pain and agony. I think the pressure got to this 18 yrs old women

this is like olympic medal crisis stage for our india and time is running out and our LUNGI, GHAAGRA and everything is at stake.

Now there is only way is to protect the pride of our nation and therefore the President OF INDIA neeed to give orders to our sports minister to deploy all our surmas like sehwag, sachin, virat, dhoni and all khans, kapoor, deols, bacchan and item girls to london olympics to give support and encouragement to our poor athletes.
