My best wishes.
Religion will eventually ruin the country if the religious fanatics are allowed to have their say...

All sports lovers in India are proud of you SANIA
by Radhey Agarwal on Feb 04, 2008 08:35 PM

Sania, every sports loving Indian is proud of you and I reproduce the extracts from American President Abraham Lincon's letter to his son's teacher, hope you will understand what i want to say:"Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd
when everyone is getting on the band wagon...
Teach him to listen to all men...
but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth,
and take only the good that comes through.
Teach him if you can, how to laugh when he is sad...
Teach him there is no shame in tears,
Teach him to scoff at cynics and to beware of too much sweetness...
Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to the highest bidders
but never to put a price-tag on his heart and soul.
Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob
and to stand and fight if he thinks he's right.
Treat him gently, but do not cuddle him,
because only the test of fire makes fine steel.
Let him have the courage to be impatient...
let him have the patience to be brave." The world never liked brave persons. I will advise you to read the life and history of Abraham Lincon and those who have read how the people make every effort to let down brave and good people. JAI HIND

Also blame the Hindu fundamentalists and the narrow minded Indian nationalists who sued her for flag disrespect (as if our great nations can be insulted if someone points their feet at it.)

Enigma
So much for Patriotism
by Enigma on Feb 04, 2008 08:34 PM

This is a slap on the face of our legal system and the government machinery. A nation of a billion people cannot come up with a medal on the international stage; now we have gone one step higher by racking controversies and kill careers of budding sporting talents like Sania Mirza. What a shame.

Indians like only cricket
by URMILA NATARAJAN on Feb 04, 2008 08:24 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Sania, you took a wise decision. Our people will never appreciate anything other than cricket. For example, look at V Anand or Baichung Butia . In cricket also, they do not want the game, they want only cricketers. Each region sponers the crickers belonging to their region. They do not like players from other zones.

You are incorrect. Chess is not a TV sport like Cricket or tennis. Anand inspired an entire generation of chess players. See how many GMs India has produced after his coronation in 1984.
Yes, we are not chess crazy as Russia. But we do respect them. Indian football does not have TV patronage as Indian cricket. This will change if more money is spent by TV folks.
Indians have consistently supported tennis. Look at the 15 grand slams India have won in the dobles/mixed doubles category. No other asian country comes even close.
Except for PT Usha and Shiny Wilson(Abraham) and the 4x400m womens relay team, nobody has done anything worthwhile in athletics. So, no respect for them.

What has your comment got to do with Sania's decision?

Media should be responsible
by Basker Mathrubootham on Feb 04, 2008 08:23 PM  | Hide replies

Highlight the comments made on her game by others. Trash out the useless comments coming from zealots and self styled nationalists.
It is indeed appalling. When cricketers from all faiths play for India, their on field exploits alone are being analyzed. However, for Sania her dress code, her respect for the national flag and everything is analyzed at the atomic level. Is it because they have never seen a muslim woman representing India for any game? Leave her alone. She deserves to live a good life.

Perfect Decision
by Indi on Feb 04, 2008 08:17 PM

I think, it's a perfect decision to back down from all Indian tournaments. It's always unpleasent things happening in Indian sports field. I think, Sania should move out of country and settle overseas by just focusing on her game and not Indian religious boggers and politics. She will do much better in out of India. Good Luck Sania.
