A boxer of repute.
by Bishwa NathSingh on Aug 24, 2008 08:00 AM

We are delighted that Vijender Kumar Singh was decorated with Bronze Medal in seventy five kg... event of Beijing Olympics-2008 on Saturday the 23rd of Aug.2008 & hasten to convey our heartiest congratulations to him as he brought laurel to our motherland and kept our National Flag flying high.Vijender Kumar Singh, though young in age has become hero in Boxing and an icon for all of us who motivating youths to follow him and created interest in boxing of entire public at large after watching his game in media. It is unfortunate that none of our official of IOA representing our country was seen while our national flag was going up and later to congratulate him when Vijender got his medal on the venue at Beijing Olympics as shown on TV on function coverage. Let us not be callous on such brilliant performance by a young police officer of Haryana State of our country who belongs to Rural India who brought a good name & fame of our country. Let us wish Vijender all success in his life & to be champion of all champions in Boxing in International events to follow!

It could be a paki trying to inflame caste here. Or if a casteist jatt then pl. note Jats fought for OBC's, i.e backward caste. You wanted to be a backward..

Ummmm, I know a couple in TIFR and IISc.....but seriously man that was a bit racist....you should not judge ppl prematurely, it could just be a case of Jat Pride (in the same way as Black Pride/Nerd Pride), I mean im a Marwari and I love blowing my own trumpet saying Marwaris are awesome businessmen and so on :)

For once can all of you stop talking about castes and creed. We are INDIANS. That is all that matters. Let us go out to the world as Indians and win as Indians. This caste system is of no use and will never get us anywhere.

by sukhbir singh nain on Aug 24, 2008 06:22 AM  | Hide replies

i live in canada, while watching Olympics i find there media and always celebrate weather a player finishes First or 15th or 16th. That really count and we should be positive about every achievement of our players as i saw many players went up to Quarterfinals, thats a great achievement. You know these many players came from very poor families, where government donot support these players until they WIN. China spent billions of dollar on there players, we don't. Our sports authority of india and All government dept are full of corruption nothing can be done in that system. Until there is a strong will by Government to win like China we cant do anything. But still i want to congrats all Olympians who played for India

I cannot agree more with this. Every Olympian has achieved great success by just being there on the Olympic team. Winning a medal is the icing on teh cake. Each Olympian from team India has done us proud. Most of our team come from very poor families and some did not get paid for months. Despite that they have commited themselves to the sport. Hats off to them.

Raj Thakrey demanded one bronze medal to be given to Maratha people.
by Rohit Singh on Aug 24, 2008 02:21 AM  | Hide replies

Mr. Raj Thakre has demanded that All north Indians are having the medals. The Olympics was telecasted in Mumbai also so it's the issue of Maratha Ashmita to not provide the medal.

So one of the medal should be handed over to a Marathi player.

All you guys!
Cool down. This is about Sports. A gr8 effort from an Indian Sportsman has won him and the couhtry a coveted Bronze medal. Why spoil the party by talking about Punjabis Or jats or Caste System OR Politicians Or degrade other communities. Why fight! Lets respect each and evry Indian communitiy which has something or the other to offer the nation in many different ways! Lets appreciate ourselves here. Sports will slowly gain popularity! Thats for sure! Hats off to all our Olympians for competing bravely!

Sorry dude.... spread hatred in the right way....

Obviously that comment could only have come from Shri Arjun Singhji....

Since no Chinese erected tents and shanties in Mumbai for the purpose of Olympics, Raj obviously wouldn't have had any problems with Marathi Asmita....

Once again give credit to Shri Arjun Singhji where it is due, .... for opening your eyes ... :-)

People like Sania Mirza are heavily publicized and advertised like the indian cricketers. They have to remain fit and free of injuries for their "endorsements". The three icons who won the medals are the true indians.

Mr Anurag!
Looks like you yourself are fit for nothing! Only such people can comment about India and Indians like that and try dividing them. It's Sania Mirza who has shown the way big time for female Tennis players. One cant help is She gets injured. Injuries are part and parcel of sports. People like Greg Rusedski, Richard Krajicek - former tennis players, Shane Bond, Chris Cairns from NZ, even Zaheer Khan all had injury plagued careers. They have taken injuries their stride and so has Sania. Oh by the way, fit for nothing people like Anurag Mishra wont have any ideas about this! and I dont understand why Rediff doesnt stop publishing such derogatory emails!

Well, Sania Mirza is not an achiever (in terms of going to the top in world tennis). But she is the motivation for the next generation and she has created an atmosphere where girls can now think that ...why not win a Wimbledon or US Open championship.
