Medal Probables...
by Prashant on Aug 20, 2008 11:04 PM  | Hide replies

First of all, congrats Sushil Bro.

There are quite a number of games where India has chances of getting medal in International events. They are-
1.Boxing
2.Archery
3.Shooting
4.Wrestling
5.Badminton

and a few more. I guess, if the preparation for Olympic-08 was of international standards and if the Indian participants would raised their game a bit, we had the chances to win at least 6-10 medals(most of which are gold).

Hope, we will evolve with time.

dear, almost all preparation has been done by the individual effort of the players . Get to haryana and you can see the plight of the pugilists there. The government of india does nothing for them, for India is the single country across the whole world where individual passion has been helpful to mitigate the reluctant policy of the government ..Bravo to we indians .

Rajesh piyush made a good observation that the preparation is more of individualistic. True. Forget about govt contribution, what is our contribution? I never paid even rs.100/- to watch a boxing match.( in south we do not know where these sports are played)Like me there are millions, who would like to see a boxing or wrestling match by paying instead of seeing a second rated movie. I request the state associations to invite all the olympians to their respective states and conduct matches. Part of our money should go to them and another part to future olymians. Let us start a community movement to improve these sports, instead of looking towards govts.

Cricket Killing other sports

HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS SUSHIL KUMAR!
Once again you made entire nation proud.
Brave ! country needs people like you.
Cricket fantatics may not agree but the fact is it is killing rest of sports in Inida. We see rarely an individual brillance which brings laurels to nation. I hope in future the government gives more support to rest of sports and make scope our other sports persons more life and encouragement...

The win of Sushil Kumar came out of the Blue where the whold attention of the fans was on boxing and other events. This is a real good thing to experience where we can get the best from the most unxpected areas. Well done Sushil. You have made your mark and made the country proud. All the best for your future efforts.

WHAT IS NEEDED IS GOOD INFRASTRUCTURE AND COACHES....
by vikram on Aug 20, 2008 10:08 PM  | Hide replies

That Indian sportsmen are world-class is now proven by the success of World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand, World Junior Chess Champion Abhijit Gupta,WWE Champion Khali,World Snooker and Billiards Champion Pankaj Advani ,10 M Shooting Olympic Gold Medallist Abhinav Bindra , by Boxing Champion Vijender Kumar , Olympic Wrestling bronze medallist Sushil Kumar.

The need of the hour is good infrastructure , good coaches and good financial support for these athletes.

If this properly taken care , and priority given to good sports management by good leaders, then India will soon be bagging more golds and world championships.
