Hi,

You are absolutely right !! One who displays talent and works hard to win laurels in some sports activity must be appreciated for the same. The medals will start coming after some time when these youngsters gain experience.
Rgds.

I hope Akhil makes it to a medal. Complete in awe of all Indian athletes who can do so much in spite of the corrupt sports officials like Gill and company. I just checked the olympic contingent and there are so many idiot olympic attaches sent on our tax money. They are neither players no coaches just olympic attache I wonder what the hell they do. Attach themselves like parasites to indian tax money.

i know Akhil may sound overconfident almost cocky in the olympics but I think if you are a boxer you have to be little over confident. Frankly you have to be crazy to be playing a sport in which half the time someone is punching your face....

What does 54 kg mean? His weight?
by Anand Krish on Aug 16, 2008 01:03 AM  | Hide replies

Anyome knows. Media creates heros. No one will be hearing about that Bindra guy from next week. Media created heros have short shelf life. Only solid, real and consitant sports heros like Tendulkar, Dhoni etc. click. Not fake ones who win medals in obscure sports sports. How many have heard of Rifle shooting a week ago?

Dear Anand

I think we need to support all sportsmen representing our country. A sport can also become popular because of the victorious sportspersons also.

how pathetic u r thinking is yaar .... there had never been consitantcy in cricket by sachin or dhoni ... The recent sri lankan series is an example .... We all are proud of an indian getting a gold medal in olympics .... lets celebrate that .... if we can appreciate india's T20 cricket win , we should be proud os single gold medal too.... Jai hind...

this media hype and cheap and disproportionate adulation is what is one of India's major problems today.

while Bindra's gold medal is a very nice event and milestone, unfortunatley at the same time this medal throws spotlight on the embarrassing fact that the second largest country in the world had not produced a single individual gold medal winner!

So, rather than dancing on the streets like monkies and beating ones chest, the right thing would have been to show recognition for this medal but temper it at the same time by saying that this is a good achievement but that we have a long way to go.

Imagine where the US, China and others are. I do not think any of those people celebrated insanely after having won a combined 1000 gold medals.

Happy Independence Day. Jai Hind

What Olympics is this.
Last time there was huge lobby from USA to put baseball even though most of the nations were against it.
Now there is BASE ball.
Why not cricket if BASE BALL is there?
Why not chess..oldest sport in earth.
When one Swimming is having 16 categories and if u have one fit player when u can get 8 MEDALS.
Same with Gymnastics.
WHY SO MANY MEDALS IN ONLY ONE SPORT?
Volley ball, basket ball, beach volleyball, sprint running etc are hugely advantaged to height and strong races.
How can Indian with average height of 5.5 compete with players with height of 6.5.

So don't worry too much and think of your core competence and churn it istead of feeling you are losers.

You are right. It is easy to get medals in swimming and gymnastics. One get bored to see lot of swimming events, there is an overdose of gymnastics. Equestrian dressage is ok but why individual and team medals. Instead of the prime events like track and field the channels are showing eqestrian events,oh the show jumping is shown again and again!!.
Indians should concentrate on events where there is no advantage of height and weight. Boxing and wrestling have weight classes. Archery, shooting, middle distance running and long distance running etc there are lot of events where we can excel.Milkha Sing and Sriram Sing were short guys.

Baseball is featuring in Olympics for the last time.... the fact the S Korea beat the US in baseball means that it also has ocuntries which are good at it. Why not cricket? Mainly cos a single match is played over a day... and before that it was played over 5 days.. T20 might have a chance.... Swimming has many categories because you can swim in many different striokes you cant run or box in many diferent ways... atleast not radically different. you run the same way with your two legs, swiming the backstroke, freestyle and other strokes..
Chinese average height is supposed to be less than Indian average height... but they are leagues ahead of us in Swimming, Basketball and sprint running.... its not to do with height and race.... its to do with good diet, picking up talented people and training them to be champions ... stop this cribbing..

I am totall y agree with You on that , its all comes from the dominating country, they change the rules as they want for their own benifit. But i am asking one Q to all of you , whatever the games we have right now, Specially Hockey " our national game , what we did and doing in that sport. COme on guys we can;t hide our self; just blaming others is very easy thing, we are lacking in infrastructure, we have mental block in our mind, we should appericaite whatever , whoever is doing some thing there on the international arena. Congrates Abhinav !

Real followers of the sport in India know what Pugilist means and would know who Akhil kumar is.
But some crazy people who just feed on news to just pass their leisure time would not!!!
So get over it, if you dont know which sport Akhil Kumar is involved in YOU DONT deserve to be reading this article, and also you are not ELIGIBLE to comment on the article.
