France blight world cup final
by Ashwin on Jul 10, 2006 07:43 PM

Looks like Mr. Mike Collett is either a French himself or is a fanatic french supporter who is tremendously hurt at the loss of his team. It was the French team who spoiled the game. The act of Zidane was unpardonable and was completely against gamesmanship. They also did not deserve the panelty in 7th minute. Italy was definitely the better team. Go Italia !!!

Opinionated Journalism

Dear Mr. Journalist,
I quite enjoyed reading your story and kudos for the same. However, I feel that it was less of an account of the incidents that actually took place and more of an opinion. To imply that Italy did not play the game as they should've would not be fair to the world champions. They did what was required of them and though it may have not made for pleasurable viewing for some, they got the job done. As far as Zidane's head-butt incident, I feel sympathetic towards him but at the same time he should've known better. Provocation, unfortunately is a part of life and by giving in to it, Zidane showed a lack of strength of character. To be riled up by someone in a match as big as this is inexcusable...unfortunately for him, he has been there before and done it too...against Saudi Arabia in the '98 World Cup finals. Indeed, a sad end to a magnificent career but still no reason to take away the spoils from the victors. The smarter team won on its day. FORZA AZZURRIIIIIIIIII. ;))

Finals

France got thro quarter-finals match against Brazil who played their worst game that day. Henry being unmarked scored the goal effortlessly but Zizou scored the goals against Portugal (semi-finals) and Italy (Finals) by spot kicks. Great goal scorer indeed! France's luck did not help till the end. Italy deserves its victory.

The above author is trying to convince others that only france played a good game. He is simply looking to this match as a blind french fan.Its really pooor reporting, Italy also played well and i am admitting that in the second half and the in the extra time france had the advantage. But this is game boss. But u dont have any right to say that italy played there worst match in this entire series, if ur sticking to ur view, then surely you are a blind french fan, and this is not good for a reporter..tooo bad

Italy was great

The author must definitely be a disgruntled French fan for his views were a far cry from the actual exciting football in one of the best finals since 86. Italians gave it to the French in the first half when they dominated most of the half. the French did come out and play better in the second half.

The Italians have surprised many by playing good attacking football this time and fully deserve to be World Champions!

Worst written article
by Sridhar on Jul 10, 2006 02:06 PM

This is one of the worst written articles I have seen from most certainly a man who favored the French to Win. I agree with the fact that the Italians were not playing to their best yesterday, but their skill was proven against Germany in the semi-final. Anybody who saw that match could not say that the Italians were not a good team. That was the best World Cup match in this tournament.
After all, the French came to the World Cup finals by beating 2 teams through a penalty and not scoring any goal on their own in those two matches. I feel the French were just lucky this time that they got to the World cup final. It would have been such a great pleasure to watch if the Germany-Italy match was the final.
About Zidane's red card, I have seen debates about whether it was just or not, I would say that Materrazzi said something, Zidane could have said something too. There was no need for him to react in a way which was shameful and completely against the spirit of the game. Whether it was decided by the fourth referee or some other player, he had to be given a red card for his actions.
Italy deservedly won the World Cup after performing and peaking at the right time.
CHAMPIONS-ITALIA
